Rose, what is the fire situation in your area?  Firehouse.com had a
story this
morning but I couldn't tell how far or near the flames and evacuations
were to you.

Nothing too close here, yet that I know about. There is a fire in the
Kamloops fire region, but I can not pinpoint exactly what the location
is of that.  Last night there was the smell of smoke in the air, but
that can travel for quite a distance.

There are a lot of fires in the North of all the western provinces.

In the spring they burned off a great deal of the dead wood in and
around Merritt so that it would not be fuel.

As I type it is just  beginning to thunder, and there is a weather
advisory for a severe T-storm with the potential of hail. Because it
is so terribly dry the threat of lightning caused fire is huge.

Mostly around Tumbler Ridge.  I don't know how close that is to you.

That is what the story said.  4 communites north of La Ronge, Sask.
have been evacuated, and there are 100 fires in the province.  They
stated B.C., Alberta with 115 fires, and Maniboba with 100 fires need
outside help.  But a lot of help has already been sent to
Saskatchewan.

It was mentioned that high winds and more thunderstorms are
expected in the above areas/provinces.

Tumbler Ridge is quite a ways away. I am just listening to the news
right now, and the report is that the evacuees may return. I bet the
residents are hugely relieved.

Kamloops. on the otherhand, is fairly close- 60 miles away. They have
70 forest fires now in the region, mostly as a result of lightning.
They are well ahead of what they typically experience for this time of
the year because it has been soooo hot and dry. Last week we were
getting temps of 40C.

Our T-storm has not yet materialized but that heavy air, dark sky, and
mugginess is hanging in there. Maybe it will still hit, but I think
this storm may be downgraded just from the length of time it is taking
to get here.
