It took a surgeon all of 5 minutes to look at x-rays and tell me i
neede to have my left ankle fused. I've already had a Triple
Arthrodesis (HEEL FUSION) done since about 2 years ago. (4 attempts
before THAT)

I went and found a video of what I BELIEVE is the procedure I will be
going through...

Screens are here...

I'm looking for info as I am about to go through the surgery in less
than 12 days.

What sort of information are you looking for? I'm afraid I haven't had
mine done yet (I still have enough joint cartilage, despite the talus
having collapsed upon itself and the joint looking quite unpleasant
around the edges) but I know that it will have to be done eventually. If
you're worrying about this, GET A SECOND OPINION. Ask about how it will
effect your previous fusions as fusing parts of the ankle throws extra
stress onto the subtalar joints (but so does having an arthritic ankle
with limited range of motion...). I know a man you had an ankle fusion
as a child because his fibula failed to develop in one leg. He moves
around fine, but then again he weighs all of 100 pounds from appearances.

Regards,

Ari

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

What about ankle replacement?? Was this option even discussed. Do a web
search- educate yourself. Fusion isn't always the only option. Kate

Well Kate, Ankle Replacement was discussed a few years back, but as
this new surgeon noticed, I am still walking on the outter edge of my
left foot (foot is angle out a bit) - he wants to bring the foot back
in, and believes fusing the ankle will also do that.

I'm not worried about going through a fusion. They've attempted a
Triple-A about 4 times on my left foot, so I'm used to going under the
knife.

Ari, the information I'm looking for is to see if the video I found is
exactly what they will do to me. It's extensive, very involved, and I'm
interested in it.
