Hey group,
I'm 38 and just got diagnosed with artrhritis in my left toe joint. I
cut the grass last week and then couldn't walk on it. Doc took a pic
and said it is arthritis. It had been bothering me on and off for a few
months. He gave me a shot of cortisone and some orthodics and told me
surgery(an artificial joint) is in my future. Is it better to wait or
just get it over with? Of course, I shall seek a 2nd opinion this week.

Hi,,, welcome to the newsgroup and I am sorry you need to be here. I would
get a second opinion and I would also keep in mind that sometimes if a
person wait too long to have surgery, the bones are worn away to were the
replacement can not make a good seat so to speak. Another opinion should
answer your questions.

Hi Ivanna,
Prostate trouble??? As to the foot....
Docs can do a couple of things. They can fully fuse the joint so it no
longer moves, they can do
a partial replacement, or a whole replacement. I had the partial done many
years ago and damn well wish
they had done the whole or the fusion. They had to put the toe in crooked
'cause once they got in there there was very little bone that wasn't
arthritic. All that happened was in a couple of months the arthritis seized
up the joint anyway. Well, not entirely. Occasionally I step wrong, the
joint moves slightly, and I am limping heavily for a couple of days 'till
the pain subsides. Coming this fall the podiatrist wants to replace the
other half and resolve the issue. He'd do it now, but I won't let him 'till
golf season is over!
