I have had two updates in the past few days. It does not look good.
Please keep praying for Wayne, his loved ones & students - they need
the love & help of the ASA prayer machine.
June 26, 12:55 pm - Thought everyone would want to know that Wayne had
to be rushed to the hospital Sat. and was put in ICU. Tonight he was
put in a private room but only until arrangements can be made to take
him to Virginia's house for hospice. Since last Friday his health has
rapidly declined; his liver is shuting down and the doctors have given
him only a few weeks. After seeing him tonight and talking to
Virginia, she and I both think it is a matter of days. His sister came
in town this morning and will be staying with Virginia. I will keep
you posted.
June 26, 2:03 pm - I visited with Wayne Duff today at Baptist Hospital.
His spirit is strong, but it's clear that his liver is failing and his
time here is limited. Virginia Baird continues to stay with him at the
hospital. The good news is that his sister has come down from Ohio to
work out a plan to have Wayne return to Ohio with her very soon--
perhaps even tomorrow-- and have hospice care there, where he has
family.
He says that he's in good shape financially and that he has everything
he needs, but I'm sure that he'd like to hear from some of you. The
hospital in Canton is in-network with our insurance plan, and the
hospice group, though out-of-network, will accept whatever his
insurance will pay. Wayne talked frankly about having made plans for
his funeral, which will be here in Memphis, whenever his death occurs.
Thanks.
