The original Lake goddess - 29 Jun 2006 01:21 GMT
Greetings! Yes, the LakeGoddess is still alive and kicking..well,
alive...the kicking ain't so high right now..hence my question.
A little background, I am now 38 years old. I was dx with RA at 28. I
have three children...Katie is 6, Marci is 4 and Lilli is almost 1
(can't believe that it went by so fast!).  I have been so exausted
lately. I am in bed by 8:30 and sleep all night (provided that Lilli
sleeps which she does most nights).  I am up around 5:30 and take a 30
minute walk or go to the gym for a hour. (trying to lose the rest of
the "baby weight").  I am just sooooo tired...my question is how do you
know when the fatigue is RA induced, "I'm a mom with three kids"
induced ...both or other.

I have got to get some energy back soon..I return to teaching in
August. Thanks guys!
I think of you often..but I am so busy now it's hard to post!

omigosh, amy, i'm exhausted just reading your post! it's great to see
you posting, though sorry you feel the need. where can we see a pic of
all three puddle princesses?

i don't know what to say about your tiredness. i've never had to deal
with three little people day in and day out. it certainly seems that
could be the reason. you have my admiration, girlfriend. up at 5:30 to
exercise. unreal. maybe it would be good to get some bloodwork done,
tho.

take care,

diane

The suggestion of a blood workup is a good idea. You need to rule out anemia
and a few other things before jumping to the RA flare. Are you eating a good
diet, getting out in the sunlight, and otherwise supporting yourself with a
good schedule of activities for the kids so that energy is going in a
positive direction, as opposed to getting scattered by just barely coping?

For me it's: can I get off the sofa to go to the bathroom without feeling
sleepy? Did I start drifting off whenever I sat down (RA) or only while I
was nursing?  Could I tie shoes and button clothes without having to sit
down to do it? Do I feel overwhelmed emotionally by the thought of having to
make dinner (depression) or can I organize the task but have to take breaks
because I can't stand up that long and my shoulders and upper arms feel like
lead?

Hi Amy,,,,   I do not know how a person can tell the difference between
being tired from exercise and from out body working overtime eating
itself,,,, so to speak.
I do know that it is something an RD should be fully informed about.   It
might also be something that a b12 shot might make better.   Having a child
takes sooo much out of a woman and it does take a little while to build back
and the older you get the longer it takes for you to come back.
I know you enjoy your exercise but I think I would cut back on the
amount you do a little and see if the fatigue goes away.   All of this is
what we talk to our RDs about in hopes of getting help.  May God bless you
and your three kids.   This is the best time in your life and we are not
going to let RA mess it up.
in my prayers...
Harv

Well said Harv.

The only thing I can add is to make sure you take some time for
yourself (aside from the exercise time). "Me time" is important for us
all but SO hard to get for moms.  A little bit of quiet time will go a
long way.  I try to spend some time with God, in prayer and/or reading.
Replenishing your spiritual self daily (whatever your faith) is a huge
step you can take to fight off all we have to deal with.

Hi Amy:
Fatigue that is a result of long days and work tends to get better
with rest, if you can ever get a long enough period of uninterrupted
sleep to do that. RA induced fatigue does not seem to get better. You
can sleep and never shake that fatiguey feeling. You can awaken after
a good night's sleep and still feel tired.

I think that busy-ness is good, but so is pacing. I think sometimes we
need to have those little power naps during the day. Even though you
go to bed early, you are up early as well, and busy throughout. I
don't think it would hurt to have a short early afternoon nap, then
pace yourself so that periods of peak energy correspond when the time
of the day that is the busiest.

Hi, glad to see your post. Have missed not seeing you post.

There is some kind of virus going around that is causing people to be
exhausted alot lately. So that might also be part of it.

But you should also get checked by dr and see if it is something more.

Yes moms do get tired taking care of their kids, but it could be something
more. Some blood tests could tell you what it is or is not.

You take care and if you can squeeze some time in there, just for you, do
it. That might help energy levels too.

A belated congratulations on the arrival of  Lilli.  I had not seen
or heard anything since you made the original announcement
about 1-1/2 years ago.
