Doctor just handed me a few boxes of Lyrica..pfizer product.
I have constant leg and feet problems from my herniated disc's and
spinal stenosis.

I hope he just isn't throwing something at me that just came into his
office.
I can't find much out about it online.

Thanks for any responses.

Anyone? Surely someone has some info on this drug?
Angela - 29 Jun 2006 14:28 GMT
Paul

I haven't used Lyrica (yet).  I take Neurontin for neuropathic pain but
can only take it at night.  I am going to ask my pain management doctor
about Lyrica at my next visit.  What I have read online makes it look
like it is worthy of a trial.  Wish I had more to offer you on this
med.  I'll post when/if I try it.

My doctor said she was thinking of using it on me.  I am thinking twice
about it.

go to www.lyrica.com
or www.rxlist.com and type in lyrica.  See side effects and what not.

I may try it later but for now I am using other methods to manage pain and
doing ok with it...

Never say never.

I am using it for neuropathic pain in my leg and it is working great but it
is prescribed specifically for neuropathic pain, shingles etc.  Your doctor
may have prescribed it because of the spinal stenosis or because of tingling
burning feeling in feet??  Major side effects are blurred vision and a
couple others I can't think of at the moment.  I think someone gave you a
site to visit though.  It is helping for me.

Good luck Paul.

Thanks.
I have Hep C with Chirosis as well which comes with a pretty hefty
fatigue penalty.
I'm finding the Lyrica makes me very sleepy and dopey feeling. It has
helped me somewhat with sleeping though. My legs and feet became my
enemy as soon as I hit the sheets.
I wonder if just taking one a couple of hours before bed time might be
enough to get me through the night?

My leg pain and feet tingling is managable through the day with out it.

My Dr. was just concerned over the lack of sleep I was getting.

Anyway, thanks again for the replies.

Hi-

I have "probable" MS and I take Lyrica.  I started out with a very
small dose and have been working my way up.  I take it for nerve pain
or tingling.  I think it is fairly new.  It's helping me quite a lot,
though it's not completely removing the tingling.  Still have trouble
in the late afternoon and evening that is supposed to be related to
tiredness.

Janet, are you having any dramatic side effects from it? How is it
making you feel other than helping the pain? Do you feel more tired
than usual while taking them?

Thank.

I was on Neurontin for a while for my spinal stenosis and sciatic pain.
It did hardly anything if anything for me.  I have been on Lyrica for
a year or so now and it has helped a fair amount.  I don't recall the
dosage but it is fairly low.  I would say Lyrica helped whereas
Neurontin did not and I have felt no side effects.

Hi Paul,,,, what do the doctors say?   Can you be helped with an operation
on your back?   Medication is a needed thing to control pain but it fixes
nothing.

Hello Harvey: Well, the Dr's at this stage of the game don't want to
touch me with a 10-foot pole.
They are concerned about my Hemophilia and Hep C(progressed to
Cirrohsis)....So for now surgery isn't even on the radar.
I have an appointment to see the Neurologist in January 07 concerning
neuropathic pain..but I'm not sure what else I'll gain from the
appointment.

Fairly frustrating to say the least.
I haven't been sleeping well at all lately. It is very humid and hot
here I'm wondering if that makes things worse?

Thanks for your interest.

Aaaa me,,,,  Sooo many times we have read here where the other things about
a persons problems or system failures keep a person from doing what needs to
be done to be pain free.   May your medicines, may the things you can do to
help yourself work wonders for you.   Please update us on what the
Neurologist wants to do.

Ah, Paul, when you're dealing with so many chronic illnesses, having one
thing get out of balance can mess up everything else - and poor sleep makes
even healthy people feel lousy!  I hope the weather gives you relief soon.

We were camping in Ottawa 3 years ago during a heat wave, temps in the 90s,
and found ourselves spending the afternoons at the movies, at Tim Horton's,
etc.  Evenings at the minor league ballpark.  It was a shame as Ottawa looked
so lovely but it was just too hot to explore as much as we would have liked.
Heh, as a native Floridian, I'm always a bit insulted when I get Florida type
weather here in northern Michigan - seems like I should have left that behind
when I moved 1300 miles north!

Paul,
What dose Lyrica are you up to?  Could be you aren't high enough yet to
attack the neurological pain.  the heat unfortunately won't help with that
either.  Some of the other things that are used for neurological pains are
some of the epilepsy drugs such as Keppra (the one I am on) or some mild
antidepressants, valium.  It takes a bit to get the right dose but they can
help with the chronic pain and neuro pain.  I am using a combination of
Lyrica (150 mg 3 x a day) and Keppra.  Keep working with your doctor until
you get the right dose.  The meds might hold off your surgery a bit until
the time is right or until you get a surgical spot (I gather this is one
solution by another post or am I wrong).

Good luck - I know how tough it is.

I was on about 75mg three times a day. But I no longer take Lyrica. It
was making me feel a bit sick and added to my already extreme fatigue.
I also didn't notice much relief from pain at all.

My Dr. said it best when he first diagnosed me with spinal
stenosis....He said, "You're between a rock and a hard place"....Blunt,
but I appreciated his honesty.

If i stay in the mind-set of one day at a time, one breath at a time, I
can do ok. It's when I let my mind wander to the "what could have
beens" or the "what will be's" that I get in trouble.

God's Grace and Mercy.....I cry out for both...

Thank you all again.

Paul, have you ever been referred to a pain management clinic?  Many
people have found relief from chronic pain this way.  It's not just the
drugs they offer, but a complete evaluation and suggestions for pain
control.

Ann
Paul G. - 19 Jul 2006 17:11 GMT
Hi ANN1: No, I haven't. Should I ask my Dr. for a referral?
So many things now in Ontario aren't covered by our provincial Health
Care.
Pain Managment is probably one that felt the axe of cut backs.

Thanks.

Paul.
