Hi everybody, I thought I'd better stop by and let you all know that the day has come for Rachel to get her VNS implant. We will be leaving home at 6 a.m. Surgery is at 8. Please say a prayer that the Drs. have a good breakfast, don't encounter road rage on the way in, and have steady hands.:) My love to all, Kelly C. Prayers coming. Hope for great results too, and a quick healing. Prayers for you and your families peace during the surgery too. Kelly, I'm late seeing this so haven't prayed today, but have been praying for her at night when I go to bed. Maybe by now she is past the surgery and out of recovery. Will be praying it works well. The ASA prayer machine strikes again.:) The surgery was uneventful and the surgeon said they found the Vagus nerve, it was healthy and the installation was perfect. Rachel now has two new scars. One on the front of the neck, on the left and one just above her left breast, below the collarbone. We'll go back for post-op on the 21st, when they'll check the incisions and turn on the VNS unit. Hi, my eleven year old daughter started having seizures 3 years ago, after a bout of encephalitis. They just never went away as we had hoped. She now has what is considered medically refractory epilepsy. She has taken many oral medications in the last 3 years, and has pretty good control now, but still has seizures every couple of weeks. The Vagus Nerve Stimulator is our big hope for her right now. The incisions are healing nicely, with the main side effect being that she tires pretty easily in the afternoon. We just got back from her first full day at school and I gave her 1/2 of one of her Oxycodones for pain. That shouldn't make her too dopey. That is all so good to hear. I've been too tied up with other stuff to say so here, but all of you and especially Rachel have been in my prayers and will continue to be that the VNS may work beyond expectations.
