Well chatted again to Diane (between Canada and Florida our phone bills are
going to be high).  She will be in the hospital for at least a couple more
weeks although maybe if lucky and we can just keep those thoughts going she
will be in rehab part of the time.

The abcess was removed without invasive surgery which was good.  She is
getting broth tonight as they removed the feeding tube so fingers crossed.
They are starting slowly.  Her med regime is all mucked up as they can't
give all her meds by iv so the MS is acting up a bit (understatemnt) but
they are giving increased steroids so the RA is a bit better.  She will not
be going back on enbrel I don't think - she figures the infections are just
coming too fast and too serious.  They are still waiting for the perferation
to heal.  They are still hoping it will happen without surgery.

Anyhow she was concerned because she ended up in the hospital before she
could thank KJ for the shoes - they fit Nick perfectly and he loves them -
thanks so much.  I know she will add to that when she is out.

Anyhow off to work on some paperwork that just doesn't disappear when you
take a 2 hour nap.  I don't understand that - do you?  Things should
disappear when the nap is over.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop Kelly. I think that it is important
to keep on top of what is going on with each of us.

I also think that knowing the implcations on biologic use is
important, not to scare us off the drugs, but so that if we do choose
to use them we can be alert to changes. we have to know that we are
playing with big guns. Having said that though, I will continue to use
enbrel but will do so with respect of its potential to cause problems.

DianeW's situation sounds frightening as well, and granted it was in
all probability not from enbrel as she has numerous health issues.
I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

It wasn't from the enbrel but the constant infections aren't helping.  It is
the combination of meds and the fragile condition of the MS, and the RA and
the osteo from the prednisone.   She is almost sure now that the infection
was there when she started up on the enbrel again - she just put the
symptoms down to "the usual".  A dangerous thought for all of us.

Anyhow she is okay - on the mend and still the Diane we know - giving the
staff hell and telling them what to do!  As we all would do when we know
consequences.

Is the evil foot dying down?  That stupid thing worries me.  Sure wish they
could figure out what it is.  Of course happened on a long weekend time too.

Take care Rose.

It is better, and the ulcerated areas are healing and looking much
better. Bruised toe is just that, a bruise- no big deal. The pred
works wonders, but 50 mgs for me seems high. I have not quite been
sleeping, but then not quite awake either. Lat night I was donig
housework until about three am. Today, I wanted to sleep in, but was
just lying there someplace half way in between like the purgatory of
sleep. LOL

I find I start a lot of jobs but don't finish them; and this
bounciness (jumping from one thing to the next) is not helping my
course work either as I can not concentrate. I remember when enbrel
made me feel more energetic instead of like this. Oh well, it will be
a short course, and I just have to make sure I take it for the
required time. Stopping too early got me in hot water last time.

The interesting thing is that I went almost a year before the evil
foot thing came back. Do I develop a tolerance to the meds? Is is a
side effect? Who knows. I just know it would be difficult to stop
enbrel too when it has worked so well in all other respects.

Good to hear that Diane W is her old self. That is a positive sign.

Thanks Kelly for keeping us posted!

Sending up tons of prayers for both Diane and for you!   You both have
sure had a time of it and have been through so much!!!

Praying that you both get a reprieve from all the health situations and
that you both can get back to some semblance of normal!

Hugs,

Good news about Diane.  i fear this recovery will be quite a battle, but at
least they didn't ahve to do major surgery.  Damn shame that Enbrel just
seems to compromise her immune system too much.

Perhaps we sshould take up a colelction to pay your phone bills as you're
keeping us informed.

I hear ya about the nap issue...... the work doesn't go away and the nap
doesn't really leave you feeling like dealing with it, just takes the edge
off the fatigue....
