HI,
I saw your post in this arthritis group where you mentioned tramadol er
use. I have a lot of jointproblems and have been working with my
rheumytologist on them. I have
used tramadol a little bit in the normal form. I saw you wrote about
using the extended release form of tramadol. I am wondering if you can
tell me about how long you find that the extended release form of
tramadol lasts?
I know lots of times they say that the extended release will last 24
hours, but then in reality, they end up only lasting like 8 to 12
hours.
If you can share you experiance with it, I would really appricate it.
Thank you in advance.

Jamie, I don't really know if it is making any difference. I take Tylenol
Arthritis at night plus a muscle relaxant so I sleep pretty well, and I
really don't notice any difference. Sorry I'm really not much help to you.

HI,
I have been taking a muscle relaxant called zanaflex 12mg at night. It
is one of thoes where I can't really tell if it helps or not. I think
what little zanaflex does it only lasts about 4 hours.
I am having a lot of trouble finding something that will keep my pain
undercontroal all night, and maintain a decent quality of sleep. There
just seem to be so few options for pain meds / muscle relaxants that
will last though the night.

Jamie, I also take Zanaflex but I only take 4mg usually along with the
Tylenol Arthritis (2). Occasionally I cut one pill in half and take 6mg; if
I take 8mg I am lightheaded when I get up during the night. Hope you and
your RD can work something out that will help.

12 mg? I take 4 mg and if I'm tired it will knock me right out for a good 4
hours minimum and even longer if I don't have something else trying to
interfere with sleep (such as my hands killing me Tuesday morn). But.. it
didn't reach this point until I'd been taking that dose of Zanaflex three
times'day for a while. And when the muscles cramps and pains flare up again,
I do better taking more doses throughout the day that I do increasing any
particular dose. You might talk to your doc about taking it some during the
day, even if you need to make it a smaller dose.
Right now, tonight's dose is catching up with my faztigue and I'm about to
fall asleep on the keyboard! gotta go.........

I also take zanaflex...and I take 12 mg at night...My rhuemy said I could
take up to 24...Are you kidding? I have to take what I take lying down in
bed...and if I have to get up within 2 hrs of taking it...I can barely
walk...But it still doesn't keep me asleep. Also anything over the 12 and
sometimes the 12 will make me hallucinate...So I have to take 2 1/2 tablets
which is what...10 mg...I also take 100 mg Seroquel at bedtime..this helps
shut my brain down...And I get about 5 hrs solid sleep...and then the pain
wakes me up and I start the dozing process...
I also take Lortab 10 for pain and will usually take this when I wake up and
then I doze off and on for another 2 to 3 hrs...
I cannot take the zanaflex during the daytime..If I am really
hurting..sometimes I will cut a tablet in half or fourths and take just a
little bit...but it does make me sleepy...too bad it won't keep me
sleeping...
My sleep problems come from Fibromyalgia plus the pain from severe OA....

Cindy, I'm sorry you have so much pain and that you can't get a good night's
sleep. Either one of those is bad enough without the other. I occasionally
take 6 mg of Zanaflex instead of 4 if I am really tired and aching, but if I
took more than that I'd probably roll out of the bed and break something!

Hi Jamie;
I really encourage you to look up tramadol on the web before taking it.
I was given some last year and it gave me very serious side effects. If
you have seizures, it can cause more seizures. I got very sick and
ended up staying up all night. Then I commenced to having anxiety
attacks for three days straight. I was in the local grocery store and
ended up almost passing out when it first hit me.
