Does anyone know how to help sinuses headaches? I Have had a sinus
infection or so they say for over 2 weeks now on my 2nd round of zithromax
and one day it is fine, the next it is not, today came home with the worst
sinus headache and pressure on my teeth and checks, I am off the enbrel and
mtx right now for one more week, took one shot last week but shouldn't have.
I am really wanting to leave for cali on Saturday but the pain in my head
and the pressure is almost to much to stand and the doc just keeps saying
steam those sinuses, gee I have steamed so much the only thing it has done
is plump up some of my wrinkles!!
Thanks in advance for any help.

Becky, have you tried irrigating your sinuses? When mine gets bad I mix a
cup of water with 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of soda. I use a large
syringe to inject it into my nose leaning over the sink, and the water runs
out the other nostril, taking junky stuff with it. Really helps me, and my
doctor told me to do that.

I've done that with some success, Gwen and what I find helps when the pain in my
face is really bad and I don't seem to have any discharge, is to wet a facecloth
with really hot water and hold it to the sore area until it cools, then do it
again. It's sort of the principle of a hot wet compress. It often keeps me from
going completely nuts with the pain, the kind where your teeth hurt, your eye
hurts, ugh.

Thanks I have tried both, I was just moving my jaw back and forth and notice
that when you put your finger in your mouth the muscles that open your jaw
they are so sore to touch and really really tight, I wonder if that would
have anything to do with anything? Maybe trigger points or something?

That sounds like TMJ, Temporal mandibular joint problems. You can try very
gentle massage and there are also some simple exercises that a PT or a dentist
can show you if that is part of the problem.

One thing to keep in mind with this is that there's the potential to
move flora that belong in one area into an area where they don't belong.
This can be particularly bad when immunosuppressed or when there's
damage from an ongoing infection. This can be a problem with
'irrigation' of other orifices as well, and has lead to a drastic
decrease in sales an production of at least one product.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Ooooh, those sinuses and spring!!! Sometimes after the steam (drainage)
I ice my face. The cold takes down a bit of the pressure and sometimes
helps the headache part. Won't help with drainage but I hope the
headaches can be managed quickly.

Hi Becky
I find the natural way only helps for a short period. I found this
beaut stuff while in London at Boots chemist - very cheap too - for
sinus. Go to your chemist and ask him/her, there are some good
products on the market.

Becky,
Hi! My ENT doc gave me a protocol that included the nasal irrigation others
mentioned.
He also told me to stop taking antihistamines, which dry up the mucus and
makes it stickier and harder to drain. Instead, he told me to use a
cortisone spray to reduce swelling in the nasal passages (Nasonex, etc) and
take an expectorant (like the active ingredient for Robitussin and Mucinex -
guaifenesin) and lots and lots of water. Helps the sinuses to drain.
Also, I don't know a whole lot about Zithromax. I do take Augmentin now when
I get sinus infections as the previous abx never would clear it out totally.
But with staying away from drying antihistamines (I use Singulair for
allergies), I no longer get so many sinus infections.

Some of the small facial steamers (Kaz, Vicks, etc.) can use menthol packs
which might help.
Ice packs placed over the eyes may help.
Also, massaging the sinuses might relieve some of the pressure. Using the flats
of your fingers, start at the sides of the bridge of the nose and, using a fair
amount of pressure, slide your fingers down the side of your nose and out over
the cheeks. Using your thumbs, start at the sides of the bridge of the nose and
press into the eyebrow ridge and slide them out, keeping pressure. press your
finger tips into the center of your forehead and, keeping pressure, slide your
fingertips out to the temples. I've done this for myself and (with some change
of fingering) for friends and it seems to help.
