Diane,

I just got done reading Cypress Point, The Courage Tree and Fire and Rain.
Got them from the library. I would not be able to pick a favorite from them,
they were all great. Great job you did on them. I am loving your writing so
much.

I love how you incorperate (sp) illnesses in them. I really like that. It
gets boring reading all these stories with the man and woman and children
all being perfect. If you know what I mean. Your stories are true down to
earth reading. I really do enjoy them.

The only part I didn't enjoy was the people eating squirrels. Those are my
family you know. LOL ;-)
I know people eat them. But they feel so much like my family that I feel
like there is some canabalizism going on. LOL ;-)

I love how you always add that twist to the end part of the book. I think I
have it figured out where you are going with it and it always surprises me.
It makes me do alot of thinking. Which helps keep the brain working I think.
With my brain fired, I am not sure though.

I have a few more to read too that I got from another library. I have these
books from the other library, Breaking Silence, Reflection, Brass Ring, and
I am reading the Escape Artist right now. Have about a hundred pages to go
on that one right now. I can't wait till I finish it so I can get tinto
Reflection, I saw it was about a PA Dutch Town, and I lived in PA so I
really want to get to that one next.

I am sad though because those are the only ones I can get from any of our
libraries around this area. I was hoping to get to read all your books. I
have looked and looked in stores out here and can't find them. But I was
glad I did find so many in the library.

Thank you for being such a terrific writer. I have really enjoyed your
books. Hope you right a whole bunch more. I can't wait.

wow, jo, i'd say you're doing a pretty good job finding my books! any
bookstore can order the in print books (you can check the book page of
my website to see which they are). and most bookstores right now have
THE SECRET LIFE OF CEECEE WILKES (cee cee has RA, by the way, and our
kate (d'huit) helped me with the motherhood scenes and other asa'ers
helped with other stuff). your library system should have that one and
THE BAY AT MIDNIGHT, which are my two most recent. if they don't, maybe
you need to yell at them.   :-)

eating squirrels? this is embarrassing, but i don't even remember which
book they ate squirrels in. anyway, i'm sure i wrote it before i knew
you and i would NEVER let my characters eat squirrels now. i promise.

thanks for the sweet post. i'm so glad you're enjoying them.

I know The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes was one listed for the central lib.
but they didn't have it in. Someone else out here likes you too. ;-)
So I will be able to get that one. The other one I didn't see listed but
will look again. Who knows I could have missed it.

I saw in one of the  books you listed Char in your thank you page. (sorry
can't think of what it is called at the moment)

With you writing and other Asa'ers helping, I have to keep reading those
books.

The Courage Tree is the one You had Zoe eating the squirrels. She was out in
the shack in the woods. I know you would not have them eating squirrels now
that you know me. But that would be ok, I just have to read fast over that
part is all. LOL ;-)

Hey I am a fan of Nora Roberts and just found a whole bunch of her books on
sale big time. So I picked some up. That is when I was able to stop at the
library and found your books. The Nora Roberts books are sitting there till
I finish your books are read. Sorry Nora. LOL

seem to like that book.

CeeCee Wilkes was excellent (as are all of Dianes books!) and a very
quick read!

We need more Books Diane and fast!!!  LOL!

See, you are just way too good of an author and now that you have so
many people hooked, you can't get them out there fast enough!!!

BTW, what does an author such as you like to read???

Do you like to read similar styles of writing or something entirely
different?

Donna G

(who is really lost not having another Diane C. book to read and who is
now looking for something that will hold her attention as well as Diane
C. books do!)

(SJ, have you read Diane's trilogy that she wrote?   If not, you must
get them to read!)
Squirrely - 07 Apr 2006 15:33 GMT
Yeah Donna, those were the first ones I read. They are all great. It keeps
you guessing till the end. I love them.

i lean toward more so-called "literary" fiction than what i write.
barbara kingsolver, pat conroy, annie proulx. i wish i could write that
well, but i'm happy just to be able to tell stories and get paid for
it. :-)

Have you read Ann-Marie Macdonald "The Way the Crow Flies"? She is a
Canadian author, but has been featured on Oprah. Her books are
excellent.

Another favorite of mine is Jody Picoult, who wrote "My Sister's
Keeper". Her plots are very topical and present ethical dilemmas, and
the characters are well drawn out.

I would highly recommend those.

I recommend your books whenever I can. I have loaned out many of my
books so that you could establish a readership here. I think it has
helped.

I want you to know I just finished reading your CE CEWilkes book and I loved
it. Just couldnt put it down. I have only read   several of your books and I
know this was my favorite.  Are you working on another?  What was the one
preceeding that one? I want to get another one started. Do you have a

hi janice,

i'm glad you enjoyed ceecee!
if you haven't already read the KEEPER trilogy, i'd start with that or
with THE BAY AT MIDNIGHT, since they'll be the easiest (easiest being a
relative term. . . ) to find. the trilogy starts with KEEPER OF THE
LIGHT, then KISS RIVER, then HER MOTHER'S SHADOW. you can read first
chapters on my (out of date) website. enjoy!

Sorry Jo but the Squirrels bring back a sweet memory for me.  When my dad
was a young teen, he shot squirrels for  friend of the family that liked
them.  He used a rifle and cost of ammo wasn't all that much less then the
price of a squirrel, so he had to be a good shot or go broke.  Came in handy
when he went into the Army.  He used to tell the tale every once in a while
and took pride in what a good shot he was.

He also played a mean game of pool.  For someone who was raised in a church
that forbade such things.

Here I was, minding my own business, browsing thru the posts waiting for
enough energy to write a proper re-entry greeting/update/whatever, and I
find you, Diane, being pushed around by an angry squirrel!

[BACK OFF, SQUIRRELY!!!!!!    LOL]

Really, I wanted to add my thanks to you for joining the ranks of writers.
I'm convinced you exist solely to lighten my load, brighten my days, and
tighten all the nuts & bolts that work loose when I spend too much time in
reality.

So thanks, Diane.

OK, I will back off Diane and get you now. LOL ;-)

You know what squirrels do to nuts don't you. ROFL.

Swishing bushy tail at you.
I hope my tail doesn't get wet, after reading this mornings paper it is
likely it might. I have to call my one neighbor today that has lived here in
the 1997 flood and see if it did hit our area here. So will know more then.
Already some levees leaking. Rain Rain go away.

whoa!  you've got blue jays who aren't raiding your feeders and are actually
bringing in walnuts?!  washington jays are much more greedy than that.

so, how's it going for you, with all the rain and levees down there?  are
you still safe and dry?

What we have are big walnut orchards, and great big mean blue jays.  They
bring the walnuts from the orchards to the houses and drop them on driveways
to crack the shells open.   They are mean not dumb.

Our dogs loved walnuts and would watch for the birds to bring them so they
could get their share.

It's the worst during walnut harvest, but still happens year round as the
birds find the walnuts the harvesters missed.

w0w!  interesting!  in '64 when we moved to the eastside of san jose, we
were surrounded by orchards-- 30 acres of english walnuts to the north of
us, about 2 blocks.  i never experienced blue jays doing that.  yours are
clever little bullies (well, our jays are bullies, anyway).

kate
Squirrely - 12 Apr 2006 18:54 GMT
Jo our blue jays take them up on the roof and tap tap tap on our roof with
them. When I first moved in it took me three times of hurrying up in the
morning slapping clothes on to go answer the door before I realized it was
them doing that above the front door. Boy I was ticked.

Now I just don't pay attention to it and one of these days it will really be
someone knocking. LOL

yeap but we don't have feeders out there because of the west nile stuff.

yeap still staying dry so far. The flooding is across the freeway from us.
Those poor people. But it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be.

But they did say this could be a problem for our area till June.

Poor Jo F, is getting the blunt of our rain that went up north further and
did keep us from flooding out like they thought we would.

That OK.  So far this morning the sun is shinning and the sky is blue.  I
refuse to go out and look at the horizon to see what clouds might be
gathering.

Besides, from here on out our danger will be from idiots in flood control
management.  Just hope there is enough capacity in the reservoirs to hold
the snow melt if it gets too warm too soon.

Guess what happens when you release too much water too fast from the dams on
two different rivers?  To the levees where those two rivers meet?  You would
think the experts would have figured that one out by now.

Jo
Squirrely - 14 Apr 2006 02:00 GMT
Jo,

Today we had sun and 73 degrees. It was a nice break. Tomorrow more rain and
Sun more rain.

Isn't that the truth about the flood control managment. That is what made it
so we were going to flood. They started all dumping water when they knew
that this bad weather was coming in. Dah. So many people are getting flooded
out in the area. I feel for them. Especially those at the trailer park that
are too poor to have their trailers moved again. they moved them when the
flood warning came, then now they are told they have to move from there.

They told us we would be on flood watch thru June.

We are on the other side of the freeway from where the floods are happening.
The freeway is kind of used as a backup levee. So it shouldn't reach us
unless major stuff happens.

We have one dam that they are sending water upstream to Stockton with and
Stockton is releasing water from their dam. So we are getting it two way
also. smart people. ;-)

Oh by the way forgot to add, if you see a squirrel floating by on a log that
is me. The storms are coming in. Even San Fran. is under flood watch.

They did take us off flood warning last night but with the rains today we
will probably be back on the warning if not floating somewhere. We are just
under a flood watch for now.

LOL, though I do feel for you with all the rain.  All the mold that comes
with that wet can't be good for your allergies either!  Both of us as well as
poor Puddin' have been suffering since the sump pump died last week and the
basement flooded.  Must have kicked up eons of mold down there, though I will
say the basement floor is much cleaner now!  LOL  and it finally looks dried
out again.

I have friends from high school in Florida who now live in San Ramon.

Nann,

I feel for you. I hope mold doesn't grow in your basement and both you.

Yeah the mold is a issue with all this rain and so is the plants really
blooming now that they got lots of water. ;-)

I am having one heck of time with the false pear tree we have. It is putting
out those green puffy things that when you step on them, they are all
pollen. I have had to up my asthma med to twice a day now. Might have to go
to three times again till after they are all done dropping off.

San Ramon got quite wet too. That  is over by where my boys live.
