Well folks, I get to join the plantar facitis (sp) group!
Saw doc yesterday. Had x-rays and ultrasound done and my right
plantar is over twice as thick as the left one. Gave me a cortisone
shot to try to reduce the swelling. Said it would be like a mosquito bite,
told him it was way closer to a hornet sting. He asked if I ever injured
that foot as he was running into a lot of scar tissue. Can't remember ever
doing so
other than twisted ankles, etc. from when I still doing a lot of sports in
my younger
days.
Have also been having a lot of arch and toe cramping in both feet. Have some
stretching
exercises to do and some physical therapy for a few weeks.
Told him I was headed for Disneyworld in two weeks. He thanked me for all
the
time I have given him to resolve this problem! lol
I'm not planning on doing marathon walking there. Mostly fishing and water
parks
this trip. Have to use up remaining tickets and this should be our last trip
there for
awhile.
Doc would also like to address my left foot great toe. It has a partial
replacement
that never was right. Problem was two-fold. The original doc only did a
partial
instead of a whole replacement. When he got in there, the arthritis was so
bad he
had to put the joint in crooked on the only clean bone he could find. Of
course
the joint is mostly seized and non-functioning unless I get too much
pressure
on it and then it hurts like hell for a couple of days cause it moved! I
need to find out what type
of implant it is so he can finish the job and hopefully get that foot back
to functioning
properly.
Didn't tell him he was going to have to wait 'till golf season was over! lol
Maybe I can get my right elbow and left foot done at the same time!
For those who don't know, had ulnar relocation in left elbow which was the
worst at
the time. The right is catching up to it and starting to cause fine motor
problems.
It too has to wait 'till golf is over. One good thing about living North and
having seasons
is I can get this stuff done at a good time of year. Otherwise, if I could
play year round, I'd
really be a mess! :-)
Hope you all have pain-free days,
GaryZ

Gary, if the shot doesn't help much, I truly, truly recommend some kind of
arch support strap.  I use an arch sleeve, just a band of elastic such as
many ankle braces are made from, that wraps around the arch.  There are many
other versions of similar ideas.  (I bought mine from FootSmart.com and they
have other types as well - NAYY)

We couldn't readily find one larrge enough to fit my husband's feet, except a
very expensive version during a really brutal attack of plantar fasciitis he
had, so I bought him an ankle brace to use instead.  He's been delighted at
how much it has helped, as it also pulls the plantar fascia up where it
belongs.

Best of luck with your feets and elbows!

HI Gary, welcome to this damn group. I mean that plantar stuff not ASA
haha.  YOU know what I mean.

I was also diagnosed with this a few years ago and it seemed under control
with the use of Doc made and prescribed inserts for my shoes. After much
ultra sound, shots in the foot it seemed to tone down a little bit.
OH but it came back again last fall when MY sed rate shot up and my lupus
was active. Joint pain all over and of couse, JUST try and walk from the
lazy boy to the john with out screaming..!!!  It is hard to do.
I have tried massage, and ice packs and all that jazz.
I did find that a tennis ball?? YES tennis ball a couple times a day helps.
Take that ball on the bottom of your bare foot, and roll that sucker when
you push down on it, while setting in a chair. It made the tears form but
that type of exercise is the best and walking.
NOW i know you are thinking "IS she nuts" and well you know I am :)) but it
does help to some extent, plus the use of NSAIDs and medrol.
Did your doc say Inerts for it for you??? YOU did go to a podiatrist
right???

sorr about your elbow yet and now the toe.  Crap you can't win can you...?

There ya go waiting till golf season is over again. mmm, well can you swing
and not swing your foot out>>>??and bring that elbow in more??  That is how
much I know about it.  I have golfed but got darn tired of jumping in the
water to get my balls of the muck...heheh
NOW you be good. and let me know you are doing alright ok??

OH and make sure you stretch your feet before you step OUt of bed. that
helps a little too. Take a towel and put under your feet, pull on it with
your hands like a sling and bring your foot UP with it. STretch that tendon
in there...
goodluck
janers,
you remember the smart one???
hehe

Did the podiatrist thing. He has me on PT twice a week, various stretchs
twice a day,
rolling a frozen water bottle after the stretching, and a heel cup in the
shoe. Will take your advise on the tennis
ball, but I had to fight the cat for it! She almost won. I'm sure orthodics
are in the future, but I think
he might want to wait "till I address the L implant before he goes ahead
with them.

First I had to fight the cat, now I'm gonna have to fight the kid for a

line his bedroom floor with them. He's bigger than me now, but I got him in

Gary,
Sorry to hear about your feet, I can sure relate, mine are terrible,
erosions in the first and 5th metatarsal and now going up the side of the
foot along with the plantar facitis also. I wear orthodics which are
supposed to help but haven't , have you tired them at all?  I think the
hardest thing is giving up my exercise, which just makes you sit around and
count all the new roles you get each day, bigger and bigger
Could luck and hope that each day is better for you.

Thanks Becky,
No orthodics yet. Had them many years ago when I had the feet operated on,
but they
totally wore out and I didn't replace them.

Gary and Becky I am here to tell you I know exactly how it feels to have
your feet hurt constantly. mine are so bad that I sometime think Id be
better off without them. from the arthritic pain to the facitis to the
neuropathy I really dont know which is the worse. I just know that the
combination of all of it drives me crazy. I take all kinds of meds but
nothing eased the pain.
I do know what you both are going through and you have my kindest thoughts
and  prayers that you will get some relief. If I can be of any help to
either of you fee free to contact me

Thanks Janice,
Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time with your feet.
Things have improved for me. The stretching has relieved much of the
cramping I was having.
The cortisone and the pt are helping some with plantar stuff. Not 100% yet,
but better.
Here's hoping there is some relief for you somewhere soon!
