I had total hip replacement on both hips in 1996 and have been
fine.  I now do not have insurance and have taken a job 2 weeks ago to
get insurance in 3 months.  My problem is after I started this job, I
discovered that I would have to load and unload heavy objects into a
van.  One of these objects is a 125 pound barrel (twice a day).  Once I
load the van, I deliver and unload (actual labor time about 45 minutes
per day).   I can do this but I am 58 now and have no other physical
problems.  I am asking myself how long I can do this without hurting my
hips.  If I can last for a year I will qualify for a transfer to
another department.  Any thoughts?

If you are able, I would contact the Orthopedic surgeon who did the
replacements
and seek his advice.  Ultimately the choice is yours. Talk about being
between a rock
and a hard place.
