Just wondering who has gone the longest period between enbrel shots
without feeling RA symptoms. It has been nearly 2 weeks now since my
last 50 mg and I don't seem to have got any worse YET. Had infection,
so missed a week.

Hi Peter,,,,   My RD would tell you that it is not a good idea to go longer
than what is prescribed.   Sometimes people will go into a Minnie flare.
He shakes his head to my going 2-3 week between shots but then again, he
does not have to pay for the medicine,,, I do after the first of the year
each year until the deductible is taken care of.   To be honest about
it,,,,,  I do not take more of any medicine than what is needed to take care
of the problem.   :-)  It seems that RA is never really taken care of.

Hey man, you can say that again !

Does the government pay for your medicine eventually ?

Yes,,,, some of it with Medicare.... I need to say here that people say the
gov. when we are the government and pay all bills of it.   I still pay
taxes,,, not much but I do pay some still.

Going too long between shots can build a tolerance to the medication
and render it useless.

You been talking to my RD.   That does happen but no where near where a
person could say,,, all the time.
The only reason I take a shot every 3 weeks is to keep it in my system.
It is no where near as long as I could go and I have to say a what cost??
That did happen to me with Methx. and it was a very painful time in my life.
Two points to be made here.  One- our RD must know what you are doing at
all times so that he/she can understand reactions, changes in our different
pains, changes in our bloodtests, changes in how we feel.... Two,,,,, to
understand when a drug or drugs just stoppppps working for us.
:-)  So the doc can say,,,, told ya for three, I guess.

That is OK if you can see one !
My ex rheumatologist retired in July 05 and gave plenty of notice, but
the local hospital still has not got a replacement in attendance, so it
is now  9 months since I have seen one there.

I notice the PA in my hands start bothering me after 2 weeks off of the
Enbrel. It then takes another 2 weeks to get back to where I was.

I've been off it twice for about 4 weeks in the year I've been on it.  The
pain usually hits me during the third week off Enberl and it's worse the 4th
week and then I'm delighted to be well enough to take it again!

Peter,

What a bummer that you have to be off, but I guess it's good that
you're not feeling the effects yet. I was off Enbrel with a dental
infection last year-I was only off for about 2 weeks, but man did I
feel it that second week.
I guess we are all very different.
I hope that you are able to get back on before the pain kicks in again,

I am going into my third week now without due to a foul up in getting my
prescription renewed.  The pain is coming back now and I had almost
forgotten what it is like.  I hope to get my prescription soon.  My RA doc
wanted to switch me to Remicade infusions.  Reason one, he told me he
thinks it works better.  Reason two, he said it is easier to get insurance
approval for it.  I am now on Medicare as my primary insurance.  I have a
supplemental policy that contains my prescription benefits.  I will start
another thread on Remicade vs. Enbrel if it is inappropriate to do so here.
