Nann Bell - 13 Mar 2006 15:36 GMT Ouch! Ok, so I've now been off mtx just under a month. To avoid complications from the liver biopsy, I had to skip last week's Enbrel and had to stop my diclofenac as of Saturday. I hurt!!!!!!!!!! Man, woke up whimpering because my feet ached so. Hands waited until I tried to do stuff, then kicked in. Thank goodness they let me still take tramadol and tylenol. That'll get me through the day.
To top it off, there's a winter storm coming this evening, so we have to be sure we leave for Petoskey by 4 pm to beat the worst of the weather. Good thing Mike's driving as they also predict high winds.
Then I lost a filling last night. It doesn't hurt, thankfully, but it is upper, front and center. Big gap when I smile now! They can't get me in until Thursday as it isn't really an emergency (ie: no pain). So Thursday morn I drive into Alpena for my fasting bloodwork for my PCP, treat myself to breakfast out, bursh my teeth in someone's bathroom, kill time doing errands and go to the dentist just before lunch. Fun week.
And next week we get to return to Petoskey to go over the liver biopsy results with my RD and have another follow-up with the orthopod. I've got nothing against Petoskey, but I'm getting tired of the drive over there!

I know that I would consider a filling in front an emergency!

Charrlygrl1 - 13 Mar 2006 17:05 GMT My goodness, Nan!
I know that if I had to go off the MTX, Enbrel and my NSAID I would be out of my mind with pain. Please fill me in, cuz I've been away the boards here, what is going on? Did your liver enzymes shoot up...what's the liver biopsy about?? What you're talking about (being of all meds) is my absolute worst nightmare-my sympathies to you...you must be in so much pain! ((Nann)) Char

My liver enzymes are fine, but my albumin levels have been low for a while and dropped even lower last fall. Albumin is a protein produced by your liver, so low albumin levels indicate the liver isn't functioning properly. He's concerned enough that he wants to go ahead with the biopsy now and not wait to see if dropping mtx does the trick. I've been on other liver-insulting meds, so
The good news is there's an interventional radiologist in the area who does trans-jugular liver biopsies - thread a catheter down through the jugular to get a biopsy sample. My RD says his patients who have gone this route remember nothing afterwards.
Poor Puddin' doesn't understand why I'm not playing with her more - just can't hold on to that stick with her fav toy for long. Only typing thanks to ultram/tylenol and lots of breaks.

Nann Bell - 13 Mar 2006 20:07 GMT > (((((nann))))) > > I know that I would consider a filling in front an emergency! heh, well, with us having to leave by 4 pm today, I figured I wouldn't push it. Thursday probably better for me anyway - at least I should be back on my NSAID by then. This dentist has treated us right in many ways so i wouldn't want to antagonize them!
Meanwhile, I forgot to mention all the water in the basement thanks to the 3 day thaw we've had. Good thing it's getting cold again!

Wishing you a less hectic time filled with nothing but good news!

My feet are taking a beating right now also so Ive got truckloads of empathy for yer situation as I also wait every morning for a call from the dentist to get in earlier for some work. Life can be a bit too difficult at times but for what its worth I am sending some big desert healing hugs for ya. Hoping you get your drugs back soon.

Squirrely - 14 Mar 2006 05:04 GMT Nann,
We (Denise and I) have you in our prayers that all goes well with the liver biopsy. We also are hoping the flaring goes away soon.
Take care and know we are thinking of you. By the way I talk to Denise every day and read her some of the posts that I think she should know about.

The winter storm slowed down and just getting the quarter mile from the Hospitality House to the hospital was a challenge! Then I was bumped for an emergency. Finally they got around to me and for the first time we learned I had to stay in recovery for 4 hours minimum after the biopsy, even doing it transjugular.
Well, that was ok, they would give me a bit to eat in recovery and the delay just gave more time for the storm to move on. Then I got the discharge instructions! NO NSAIDs for 14 days!!!!!!!! And I'm under orders to skip at least one week of Enbrel post-procedure. sigh....... really tired (too little sleep and all in a strange bed). If I'm really dragging tomorrow, I'm rescheduling the Thurs. AM lab appt. Now I have to go make it up to Puddin' that we left her alone for 27 hours, while Mike is downstairs cleaning up some of the growing basement flood. (hopefully that will stop now that it's below freezing again.)

You get plenty of rest. I was worried about you with the storms going thru that area yesterday. I hope you get good results from the biopsy.
I remember those days of the basement flooding and having to pump and pump it out again. I sure am thinking about you with that. Hope it goes ok for you.
