Spring Break- Not all Otp

RoseB - 10 Mar 2006 03:48 GMT In mid-November I went to watch the Christmas parade and had to stand at that for about an hour and a half. After that I felt a large lump under my right foot which I showed the doctor. I had the area exrayed, and the results were that my foot had flattened so much that there was a bone sort of pointing downward. This thing is painful to stand on or walk on for any length of time. It is not as bad when I am wearing shoes, but without shoes on it feels like walking on a large marble or something similar. Actually it is larger than a marble, and to the side of the arch so in a weight bearing area. The doc suggested that the only thing for it would be to have custom made shoes. So for the first part of Spring Break I will go to Vancouver, and have a pair of shoes made with the llift built in, and some modification to accomodate the changes to my feet.
On Thursday I will be visiting my Rd for my follow up appointment regarding enbrel. Mostly I have done very well with it, however there was one injection about three weeks ago where my heart started to race and pound after the injection. This episode probably did not last long, but it seemed like it was long to me. Things have been fine since and there has not been a reoccurence. I also did my mtx on the same day, so I am not sure if it was the combination or a problem with my technique or some other unknown factor.
Now the OTP part. I will be going for my court briefing because on the 21st I will have to go to court to testify about the mugging that took place last June. I have mentioned it here, how a woman watched me come out of the bank and then tried to choke me.
And that will pretty much take care of the whole thing. Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

Nann Bell - 10 Mar 2006 04:44 GMT not exactly a restful break for you is it! Well, I hope it will do you good to have these things taken care of and that the custom shoes works wonders for your feet. You are inspiring me to keep my high, flexible arches well-supported, even though it means I'm pretty much a prisoner of New Balance and Birkenstock.

Any sandal that has a removable insole is great as well as you can fit an orthotic in. Many are made on the same last, so that helps. The problem is that most of the sandals that do have the removable insole are European made and that means very pricey. Shoes like Mephisto, Finn Comfort, and the like generally work for most people. My problem is that I have such a deviation in the toes that some rife up over one another and so my foot will not fit in most shoes. The now there is this new element of the boney protrusion underneath. It is not too bad when I am in hte shoes I have, or barefoot on carpet. Walking on the bare floor though is murder. At one point I wanted to put hardwood throughout, but I can see now that I will have to revise those plans. This will not go away.

Butterfly - 10 Mar 2006 06:05 GMT I have steel plates in both of my shoes since I got out of my cast (broken bone in Sept, surgery Dec 27). I now walk faster than my DH who had both knees replaced 2 years ago. He had been walking faster than I could keep up. I didn't have the 'heads up' on my foot like you did but the Dr said that is what happened. My feet are numb from Peripheral Neuropathy. I do not have diabetes, been checked thoroughly over the past 2 years for it, ever since the Neuropathy started. Now I have it in my hands as well and wearing carpal tunnel braces has helped greatly. I can type a bit longer now.

I hope it works out for you with your feet and hands. It sounds like you are doing well with dealing with it all.

I go back to the Neurologist on the 21 to see how things are progressing. Have trigger point injections on the 24th (can't have them in the wrists as I'm still on Prednisone) and an epidural in my neck on the 31st, if the Neurologist says it's ok. It really helps to have a very supportive immediate family.

Kelly - 10 Mar 2006 15:26 GMT Rose, Spring break is suppose to be a break! Wish I was around and could meet you in Vancouver. Course without driving I wouldn't be easy to meet up with. Hopefully the shoes will help. With any luck that court case will finish quickly. Will you get a couple of days in Penticton when you visit you rd for a holiday??
My daughter in law is in her last month and a 1/2 of her practicum and loving every second of it which is nice. She has been taking her teacher's band classes, english and math classes (middle school) and has started an after school choir which has been a huge success. So nice to see her doing well. She is a sweetie. Unfortunately she really wants to stay in Sidney area and Ken's job really should be in Vancouver. They are working it out but as a mom it is hard to sit back and say absolutely nothing. Is mothering ever over?
Have a good break despite. Have you read Her Mother's Shadow by Diane. If not do you want it mailed to you?

>you rd for a holiday?? No I won't just the one day. But that is fine too. The Okanagan is so nice that I can roam around a bit and really enjoy the day. We made an unscheduled trip to Langley yesterday to see sister number 1. She had her incinsion from her tkr reopened and cleaned out, and was now diagnosed as having diabetes and that is implicated big time in her wound not healing. Her surg was a week ago and she was improving, but all if a suddent the infection reappeared so while we were there yesterday they started the IV antibiotics again and she will be seeing the wound specialist as soon as possible. She is quite discouraged. Somehow middle sister and I got "turned around" not lost mind you, just turned around, on the way home and did not get back here until midnight. I had two loads of laundry to do and some tidying up before leaving today again for the coast. Cleaning woman is coming Monday and I don't want her to have to pick up after me too. Had I been prepared yesterday morning I could have just stayed overnight in Langley, but that would have meant that sister #2 would have to drive home herself and she is not really in any shape to tackle the Coquihalla alone. I will say though the highway was very good.
>Hve you read Her Mother's Shadow by Diane. If >not do you want it mailed to you? I have read all Diane's books, but thanks very much for your offer.
So I will be leaving shortly. I am going by bus to Vancouver since I am going alone.
Take care! Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

Kelly - 12 Mar 2006 22:56 GMT Bad luck on the book but I will no doubt read it again. Thought it was one of the books I had read before but not.
I sure wish your sister would heal - this has been such a worry. Bet she was glad to see you though.
Take care Rose, kelly

It sure sounds like you are going to have a busy spring break.
I have an area that is like a lump on the side of my one foot, have been trying to figure out if it is an arthritis nodule or what. It is in about the same area as where yours is but on the side instead of the bottom.
I feel for you with that and hope that the shoes with the lift built in help you greatly.
I hope you do mention the racing speeding heart to your dr in regards to the enbrel that one time. I get the heart stuff like that from thyroid issues and I know that is not fun.
I hope all goes well with the court briefing and the court case. I hope you do well with having to go thru it again. You are in my thoughts.

I get the heart stuff like that from thyroid issues >and I know that is not fun. I will mention it to the Rd, but also I did receive a call from the enbrel nurse to see how I was doing and I ecplained it to her. She said that it could be a result of poor hydration from not drinking enough during the day, being tired, or any number of factors. She thought I should not worry too much about it at this point as I have been on enbrel since last July. Thanks for asking.

Squirrely - 14 Mar 2006 05:17 GMT Dah, the queen of hydration problems should have thought of that. I knew that. Darn fibro fog, gets in my way every time. I should have mentioned the hydration thing but since I don't know much about enbrel, I didn't think of it.
Still praying for your sister. I read that post too. I sure hope she gets a break soon.
