I am 60 and have OA in my hips...usuall story of steady getting worse over
last few years..
I used to walk a lot ...to and from work every day etc...as the OA has
become worse I have cut the walking and other wear-on-the-legs activity down
so in the last year or so I walk only short distances...much, much less than
before ...
BUT! the OA continues to worsen at the same rate as earlyer years....How
come ?
Its a 'Wear and Tear' thing isn't it ?...so why when the wear and tear I
place on my legs is much reduced does not the condition much reduce in its
progress ???
I have seen the same pattern in many other people..
Why when we 'ease-up' the OA doesn't. ?

Once the damage is done, there is no way to undo it except by a replacement.
I had one and couldn't believe I had waited and hurt for so long!

I read on this forum that OA isn't just wear and tear. why do some
people like you and me get it so badly when others that had the same
activity level might not have OA at all. someone here said, and I think
it's true ,that there is an inflammatory process at work. for instance,
many OA sufferers also have inflammatory bowel diseases which can be
connected to skin and eye problems. maybe someone could discuss this
subject further.
that being said, I was diagnosed with OA when I was 55. it, too, got
steadily worse. Finally, I couldn't stand it any longer and had 2 hip
replacements this winter. I'm still recovering from the second so don't
feel like tap dancing yet. i sense your frustration and really
understand and sympathize with you. Take care.

Thanks tsedinger (above msg) for your good hopes...My reading re; cause of
OA is that there is not much understood about its BASIC cause(es)
..inflammatory process at work in OA seems to be some people only..
Hope your new legs work out all fine n OK.
