62-year-old geezer again, 11 days post-surgery
MD appt. today. He said that 20% of lateral right meniscus was
removed and amt. of swelling today was minimal and far below average.
He added the warning to not even think about crouching or running for
another month when the next appt. is scheduled. He wholeheartedly
endorsed using the ski machine but to ice down after every use.
Questions I should have asked: If swelling is so minimal, why is
there pain when using steps (especially down steps); why is there pain
upon significant flexion preventing crouching; and why no running for
a month at least?
I never think to ask good questions until after the fact.

Congrats for being a Runner ~ !

he said the swelling was minimal not non-existent. The swelling you do have
is interfering with the full movement you need to crouch or go down the
stairs. Running falls into the category of high impact...its just a bit
early in your recovery for that kind of pounding on the knee..especially if
your dr suspects you would over do it.
Patience needs to be your mantra right now

You're not supposed to be crouching!

:-) We are all that way Jack. My doctor is used to me just handing a
paper with the questions or information that I know I would not think of.
He really likes me doing that and wished that more of his patients did the
same.

believe it or not...the swelling is sorta a protective mechanism...as it
keeps the acts as a cushion...hard to believe but true...
if you look at a picture of the knee joint you will see that the menisci are
sorta like shock absorbers...absorbing the "shock" of any weight bearing
,,,going up and down stairs...crouching etc...
having even a portion removed means more of your joints ..upper and lower
legs...will NOT be cushioned..thus can sorta "grind" upper onto lower bones
plus...where the menisci are removed ...that area needs to heal...
ie...don't rush it...if says ski machine is ok...go for it

That's because you are extremely stupid, even for your age.

Look asswipe, I got better NGs to troll. I just keep coming back here
so you don't get to feeling all neglected, you know, like when you
were a kid.

Hey, get your facts right - Kurt is *still* neglected - and you competing
with him for time-wasting posts really does *not* help
;o)

Really? I heard he hires young boys to touch him nightly. Certainly
adults and females neglect/ignore him, but that's typical and
understandable with peds.

Dude, show me ONE post where I wastedbandwith or time, and I'll leave
here forever.

1. Because you have just had surgery, and you body needs time to heal

Pain is the body's way of saying you are doing something wrong.
Listen to that small but highly intelligent voice, before you do yet more
damage.

Why bother giving advice to someone who is obviously dumber than a
tree stump? Anyone doing what he CLAIMS (I still say troll) to be
doing, is either severely retarded, or has a single-digit IQ.

Answer to your questions: It takes time, time, time to heal, and we can't
rush it! Happy healing and be cautious what you do for awhile. Nanny
