Hylan Injections

Does anyone have any recent experience with Hylan injections in their
knees?
I know that for some it can help, and some it does not.  Any down side
to the
injection?

The cartilage is gone in both of my knees and I have been able to
manage the pain
with Tylenol and Celebrex. I have been told by my orthopedist that I
have high pain
tolerance considering what my X-rays look like.  But I am having
increased pain so the
injection is my next step.  I am in my later 40's and do not want to
even consider
a TKR at this point.  I can still work but the pain is definitely
increasing.

Thanks

I had it done to my left knee last summer and I am still getting very
good results.  The shots, themselves, are uncomfortable to get, but
that doesn't take long and quickly passes.  Go for it, Tortoise.

Thanks for the promt response.  I am on my feet all day for work.  Do
you
recommend taking the day of the injection off or does the discomfort
from the shot
last just an hour or so?

Hi--
Before I had the shots, getting out of a chair was only possible with a
scream.
Horribly painful!
I got the Hylagan shots, they do smart quite a bit, but only for about the 8
seconds it takes to do each shot.
I had it done to both knees at the same time last summer.  Five injections
each (total), one per week (both knees).
Sometimes the first shot doesn't help allot, but by the time you finish the
set of five shots, you feel much, much better.
They recommended that I take it easy and rest my knees for a day or two.
Just nothing up, down, strenuous.
But things like going out to eat, etc, is fine right after the shots.
For me it made a wonderful difference, still a year later.

A bit of pain coming back now, a year later, nothing at all like I had
before.
I'll probably get the knee shots again, and then my knees will probably be
good for years to come, I hope.
The shots may smart, but the results are so very good, that I would have
them done again in a heartbeat.

Best----
Ron

You got in there before I had a chance to check the newsgroup.
Thanks!  I'm glad you did.  I forgot about the "take it easy for a
couple of days."  Sure does work, though.

Well I  had my first injection today so we will see what happens.  I
have never had this type of injection before so it felt a little weird
to feel the liquid going through my knee joint.
Will post again.

Thanks everyone

It sure does feel weird, but it worked on me - still working seven
months later.

I have completed 4 of the 5 injections.  I am having no problems
tolerating the
shots but have not seen any real difference yet.  Does anyone have any
input on whether this is normal?  I have no idea how soon there is
supposed to be some relief.

Thanks
