I'm developing arthritis and my doctor has given me some Celebrex to try
out.  He swears by it and says his wife uses the stuff.  However, I'm
wondering after the bad experiences with Bextra and Vioxx whether any Cox-2
drug is safe.  Any thoughts?

Even if everything they accuse these drugs of is true, they're still
pretty safe, as drugs go.  Certainly a few days use to try it out is
reasonable.  My own take is that I'd trust them on an occassional use
basis, and if they worked particularly well for me, I wouldn't worry
too much.

Have you looked into whether Hidden Food Allergies are playing a
role in your arthritis? There are several books at the library about
this. You can also talk to either a naturopathic doctor
(www.naturopathic.org) or an alternative doctor (www.acam.org) for more
info.

Hi,
I have taken Celebrex (up to 200mg a day) for a number of years.  I now
only take it if I really need to which is rarely now.  My RA doctor
says it is safe but my Cardiologist says it is his enemy and told me to
go off it - who do you believe.  I have had no side effects from it.

I'm going to see my cardiologist soon and will ask him what he thinks.  In
the mean time, I've only taken Celebrex a few times.  There's no question
that it works but I'm wary of it.

I took Vioxx until it was taken off the market.  It only helped me a
little.  Then my doctor switched me to Celebrex.  The difference was
amazing.  The Celebrex helped me a lot.

Unfortunately after taking it for about three months it started to
bother my stomach.  Even with Prevacid I still had to stop taking it.
If my stomach wasn't bothered I take it in a minute.  I know there are
some heart problems.  If your doctor feels your heart is healthy, as
mine did, then you need to weigh the "possible" heart problems with the
quaility of life Celebrex may be able to offer you.

I suppose you could try it and see how much it helps you.  If it
doesn't help a lot then it's not worth the risk.

I really miss my Celebrex!

Good luck.

Jane
