Well, I finally went and done it - I got hearing aids. I picked them
up yesterday and am now learning how to live with them. A few sounds
are surprises. I didn't know the dining room chairs (swivel type)
were so noisy! I also will have to learn to speak louder! That
surprised me. I have my first meeting at Toastmasters with them today
- that will be fun. One of the most pushing reason for getting the
hearing aids was that I couldn't hear one speaker and she got the
ribbon for the best speaker of the day! We shall see.
BTW I don't remember if I told you or not, but I'm planning on putting
some pictures from Spain, Germany, and Ireland that I took in 1997. I
just checked and I see that there is an empty folder! :-( I will
fill it this afternoon.
Well, time to get ready for Toastmasters. Here we go!

LouJean,
This is exciting for you. Let us know how they worked at the meeting.

Congrats!
I've been wearing hearing aids for over 15 years and they are such great
help.
There is supposition that hearing aids will bring you back to your hearing
like you were before the ears has loss. That is not true.... Hearing aids
help you to use what hearing that you do still have function the best it can
so we miss as little as possible.
Blessings,
David

That's almost true - with the new programmable (some have 16 levels)
ones, they can almost achieve that. I was very tired yesterday, after
coming home from Toastmasters, from absorbing all the additional data
I had been missing before. My mom wears them, too, so have an in
house source for questions. Mine even have a little switch in them
that will shut down the hearing aid when a telephone receiver is
brought close enough! No more, "Oops, let me turn down my hearing
aid!)
