every once in awhile, one of us becomes aware of a celebrity who lives with
arthritis.  some of us wish that one "big name" would find the time, energy
and inclination to share their "limelight" by drawing attention, focus and
resources to eliminating the devastation to quality of life that arthritis,
in its many forms, causes.

this time, i happened to watch half of a 2 hour "actor's studio" episode,
which focused upon liza minnelli (tuesday, i think).  during the course of
her interview and living biography, i was struck by the fact that one
sentence was given to the fact that she has had both of her hips replaced
(due to "degenerative arthritis"), and still does her own stunts (falls).
did anybody else catch that?  (and i've heard, correctly or incorrectly in
the past, that she's also had 3 knee surgeries and back surgery, as well as
vocal chord surgery)

something else that came out during the show, that just was just fun to
know, was the fact liza minnelli, as a little girl, was actually the real
"eloise" of the plaza hotel, who kay thompson wrote about in her books.

What neat information.  I didn't know any of that.
Thanks for sharing.

i haven't paid much attention to liza minelli over the years.  i was
surprised though last night to realize the defense attorney on "law & order"
was kathleen turner.  despite her distinctive voice, it took me a while to
realize it was her.  she seems to have put on weight again, which made me
wonder if she's having to take prednisone again these days.  i hate the
thought that enbrel may not be holding her and she's had to resort to the
rped, but as she looked so fab fairly recently when doing the graduate on
broadway, i have to wonder.  i'm kinda hoping that she just got fed up with
the hollywood standards and decided to enjoy life some, but knowing the ways
of RA, i fear tat's not the reason.  found her website last night - nothing
about arthritis listed under her "causes".

Shoot!!! I missed that and wanted to watch it. I wonder if it will be
rebroadcast on Saturday night (or Friday- whichever night NBC has at
least two of the Law and Order versions on in a row)?

Neat! I love the Eloise books. One of the girls I used to nanny in
California insisted on being read an Eloise book every evening and it
never got old for me (thank goodness!).
