I had taken mom to the doctor and they gave her one of those simple test
like who is the president what is today's date. Doctor said  she has
short term memory loss,(but I  Iknew tha she had that)t and he gave her
something to improve her memory ARICEPT10MG  I never asked him if it was
alzheimers or dementia as I didn't want to know, but she has an appt
next month and I am loaded with a whole bunch of questions this time
around.
I just see from my own experience that she is very short term memory
loss, lots of repeating , yet she  is still sharp when it comes to her
house and belongings, giving me strict instructions about what she wants
done if she passes.she still washes her clothes and changes her bedding
ect. I do keep her here with me at night so that I can monitor her meals
for dinner and breakfast plus give her meds. I have to work during the
day and she wants to go home as long as I have to be gone during the day
she said she would rather be home while I am work. she just lives 3
houses up from me so she exercises walking back and forth to mine house
to hers. I have had to ease her to staying with me slowly, as she does
not want to give up her independence yet.

Hi JJ,
I think this message got caught up in the crossposted bs. I have
no idea why it was crossposted. But back to your Mom. There
should be lots more tests given to her since it could be a
treatable. While the tests she was given are useful they are NOT
useful if there aren't other things checked first. Like her med
interaction, thyroid, lungs, heart etc. Sounds like the Dr is one
of those that only looks at her age and doesn't want to really
try anything else but her quality of life could be vastly
improved if a cause were found. Also some of the AD meds really
don't work for some other dementias and in fact make it worse.
Ask for referrals. Check out the link below my name or go to the
AD association site to find out what tests should be done to rule
out other causes. It might be good to change Drs if s/he isn't
willing to cooperate.
