Mom fell today after being given Ativan for agitation. She started
Risperdal last week. She has trouble maintaining her balance at
times. Is the combination of these 2 medications safe? Could they
combination have caused her fall?
Other meds: Aricept.

Did she have any trouble with just the Risperdal? My mother was on
Risperdal for a year but then her doctor increased the dosage and she
became dizzy because it seemed to be causing her blood pressure to drop.
Seroquel is working better and doesn't seem to have side effects
though I'm not sure it's the first drug of choice.

My mother did not take Ativan, but did take Risperdal. I think Risperdal
does affect coordination to some extent, but was difficult to separate the
effects of the Risperdal from the effects of decline due to Alzheimers.
Sometimes it's good not to try too many new meds at once, otherwise you
can't separate the side effects of individual medicines from the interaction
between the medicines.

The ativan alone could have done it, never mind the respiridal.
