My mother's doctor has recently prescribed Namenda to be added to the
Reminyl that she is already taking. However, her insurance company
says that Namenda is not in their formulary so the cost to her will be
higher than she can handle on a fixed income. Is there anything that
can be said to the insurance company to get them to make a higher
payment on the medication?
Thank you for any information you can give us.

Hi,
Try having the Dr write a letter to the insurance company. You
might want to remind them also that if they won't pay for the med
that you aren't sure how long she will be able to live at home
since they are refusing meds that might help her with her
activities of daily living. The longer she retains adl's the
better off she would be. Make your arguments about it costing
them more later on. Insurance companies only care about the
bottom line.As a last resort go to the link below my name
and check out the free meds links. Sometimes people can even get
free/reduced meds directly from the company. Try contacting the
company to see if they have a program.

Forest Pharm. recently added support for Namenda (sp?) to its very low
income meds program.

I have found that the program "PACE" in Pennsylvania is very supportive of a
lot of geriatric medicines. Hopefully they'll have a Pace program in your
area.

Is there a "drugs from Canada" source in your area?
