Tom, I'm with you. When my Mom had the faculties to remember where she
lived, and remembered how she got home, then she was able to go where
she wanted. It's only when she couldn't remember who we were or where
she was that we kept her with one of us. She still could go outside
anytime she wanted to, but someone was with her.
And I don't feel that a son should be punished for doing what he feels
is best for his Mother! The government cannot tell me what my Mom is or
isn't capable of!

that's the point! his mother *couldn't* remember where she was
or where she lived, but he still thinks she can be left alone,
which he cannot do if he wants her to be safe.

sorry, but they can. it's called neglect or endangerment. if
he's a caregiver and he allows her to get lost more than once,
that's neglect, and in most states the state adult protective
services agency *will* take custody if the family can't or won't.
the nursing home was right, and you and tom are wrong, wrong,
wrong.
