Songbird, you are right.

We have to get really ruthless about using the killfile.
I just don't have time for their crap.

Hope you are having a good day.

Unfortunately, there are people who complain about trolls, even list
their usernames in order to warn newcomers to avoid their posts, yet
continue to respond to them with lectures, insults or threats, bragging
that they can "handle" them.  Newsflash.  If lectures and insults
worked, the trolls wouldn't still be around.  Threats are only as good
as the dedication of the troll's ISP to curbing problem posters.

After seeing some groups in action, I've come to the conclusion that
while those people may claim to hate trolls, they actually enjoy
swapping insults and threats with them.  Unfortunately, the game often
impinges on the rights of people on this and other newsgroups.

yep.  killfiles work.  'nuff said.
DuPuisR@webtv.net - 12 Apr 2004 04:43 GMT
Killfiles work unless you're on MSNTV (formerly Webtv), Dennis, which
doesn't have 'em.

You know, I mostly lurk here, but I post a bunch on the weightwatchers site,
and many of the same tripesters show up there as well, can you believe??

and they will as long as they get a reaction.  the best thing to
do is killfile all trolls.  when they change names or a new one
pops up, just push 'em into your killfile (or set a block sender
filter) and forget 'em.

they're not worth wasting time and bandwidth on, and certainly
not worth the intellectual energy required for a reply.

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS.
Gwen Love - 09 Apr 2004 06:55 GMT
Or just do like I do.  When I see the title posted and the name of the
sender, I know it's not one of ours and I just skip over all of them

Dennis, I haven't figured out how to killfile in Outlook Express. Can you
advise?

Songbird, you go to "Message" while you have the offending party
highlighted.   The drop down menu will have a place that says "block sender"
and you click on it.

It will ask you if you want to remove all the messages from that person, you
answer yes, and it blocks them forever until you decide to unblock them.

To unblock someone, you go to "Tools" and the drop down menu says "message
rules" then you go from there to blocked senders list, and highlight the
person and unblock them.

There are so many different names posting now that I don't want to use the
computer space to block them all.  That's why I just skip them.

Believe it or not the same ones show up on alt.support.diabetes too!  But
the people there are absolutely vicious with trolls,...... some so much so
that they even attack people who aren't trolls if they should innocently ask
a question about certain products the trolls are associated with.

The WW group just ignores them, and truly they don't come around much, just
the few that post to every newsgroup known to man.

Easy to avoid by subject line most of the time.

I'll go first. Am mostly lurking these days. Most of you can help others so
much more than I could possibly help. Only pipe in when I might have
something to add.

Life has been extraordinarily busy lately:

My mother is recovering well from her cancer surgery. Her 3 month CT scan
was clear.

Daughter (12) switched Middle Schools in late January, had a rough patch,
but just brought home a report card with a B+/A- average.

My son (6) is finally reading and no longer needs extra help. But we are
having trouble getting the school OT to certify him as needing help for his
handwriting.

It was my husband's 44th birthday today. His birthday invariably falls
during Passover and he gets bummed about the quality of the cake (as you
can't use flour that hasn't been baked into matzah first). Well, this year,
I found some Middle Eastern cake recipes. They were vastly superior to
anything I tried before. Made an orange chocolate cake (ground almonds
instead of flour) with orange marmalade filling and chocolate mousse
frosting. It was the best home made cake I'd ever done.

Our synagogue is merging with another. I am on the committee overseeing the
merger and the committee to plan the new religious school. We
interviewed/auditioned one Rabbi last week. There will be another this
weekend. In parallel, we need to start interviewing education directors. I'm
also teaching a Hebrew class.

I'm about 12 loads of laundry behind and the house is a mess. But the whole
family watched the Princess Bride tonight for DH's birthday; my son even
snuggled on my lap for most of it. Priorities.

I wish all of you a pleasant holiday, whether it be Passover, Easter, or
another.

am i second?

well, i'm nearing my year anniversary in my job as manager of 7
apartment buildings and 3 mobile home parks, total 480 tenants.
it *does* keep me busy.  my boss seems to think that i'm doing
reasonably well at it (he should, i've made money for him) but
that there's always room for improvement.

the 30th alaska folk festival is next week, and while i'm not
playing onstage, i will be jamming in the halls and the bars with
many of my friends, playing music all night so i probably won't
post much next week.

spring has sprung in southeastern alaska.  crocuses are finishing
blooming, daffodil leaves are just poking up, and the skunk
cabbage is poking up in the swampy spots along creeks.  the black
bears are waking up and are hungry.  we've had 2 incidents of
bears getting into garbage cans in the parks, which are near
wooded areas.

mom is slowly declining physically.  her COPD is getting worse
and worse, and i can't seem to keep her from "sneaking"
cigarettes almost every day.  she gets totally out of breath just
getting from her front door to the car, about 100 feet.

i now believe that while she may have some mild dementia due to
probably ministrokes several years ago, much of her memory loss
then was due to severe depression.  she's been depressed much of
the past 2 years, and i believe that the depression combined with
the hypoxia resulting from her COPD mean that she still has mild
memory problems.

it will be an interesting challenge travelling to california with
her in june to my niece's wedding.
Gwen Love - 09 Apr 2004 06:59 GMT
Dennis, I don't envy you the trip to California.  Hope it will go well
though.
