I was just wondering how long you have to give this drug to see if it will have
any effect. For those of you who have seen good results, how long was the
person on it for before these results could be seen?

Hi Sheellah,
I think it really depends on the person. When My Mom was first
starting Exelon it took at least 3 months before we saw any real
difference. She did have problems when she first started taking
it but we held out for the 3 month mark since that's how long the
paperwork said it might take.

most drugs that work on brain problems seem to take a month or
two to reach a therapeutic level, but it varies from person to
person, expecially in the elderly.

i would give it a couple of months.  btw, the normal thing is to
continue with excelon or aricept if the patient is already taking
it.

 Hi, Sheellah:
When George started the Namenda, I *thought* I noticed a difference in
about three weeks. That may or may not have been just wishful thinking on my
part. When he went to see his neurologist after starting the Namenda, three
months had passed. His MMSE had improved 2 points by then, so I *knew* he'd
improved then. As Dennis said, everybody is different. If you don't see a
difference right away, don't give up.  It might take longer or it might just
be very subtle.
