Are you talking about those waterproof blue ones? We use them, as well as
Depends pull-up panty style diapers, but she manages to get the bed wet
often enough anyway.
One problem we are encountering is that she gets up, goes to the bathroom,
then on the way back to bed, totally removes the depend and leaves in on the
floor and gets back into bed, then wets it. We have to be very very
diligent and watch her constantly or she is pulling the doggone thing off.
She imagines she doesn't need it.

My mother in law pays for her own depends and the chux too. She still has
her own money to pay for her needs.
She keeps on taking them off though, laying them on the floor of her room,
then peeing down her legs on the carpet across the hall to the toilet.
AAARGH!

I work in a group home and we use both chux and the cloth pads. To help
save the mattress, put a couple of the cloth pads or the chux under the
fitted sheet. Also, if your LO becomes bedridden and you have to
reposition the LO, you can grab the edge of the pad at both ends and use
that to help turn them (like a drawsheet in hospitals on hospital beds).
It will help save your back.
