Hi, Everybody:
This has nothing to do with AD, but I could really use some prayers.
It's all that's left for my sister and her husband.
My BIL, Jack, is 2 months younger than I. He'll be 54 in September. My
sister and I have not been on the best of terms over the years, but I got an
e-mail from her this morning. Jack "passed out" at work yesterday. He's in
the hospital in New Orleans in very critical condition. He has a skull
fracture, bleeding into the brain, and some swelling of the brain. The
doctors are "very guardedly optimistic" that he will eventually recover.
Nonetheless, they're only giving him a 50/50 chance right now.
Please, if you have faith in the power of prayer and our Lord, pray for
Jack. I wouldn't want anybody to lose a loved one this way.
Thanks to all of you.

Hi Mary,
I rarely say it, but many of the names I recognize here are often in
my thoughts. I'll just shift the emphasis to your family right now!
I hope things turn out for the best for Jack and everyone else
involved.
Darryl.

Everybody, I just want to thank you so much for your prayers, your
thoughts, and your general caring in regards to my request for prayers for
my BIL.
Jack is going to be in the hospital for a couple of months, my sister has
been told. But he will live. He has some brain damage, but they're hopeful
he'll be able to make a nearly full recovery. He's only speaking in single
word sentences....with the exception of saying "I love you" to my sister.
But, Saturday, he managed to sit up and the nurses said he figured out how
to feed himself after about 10 minutes.
I guess this was rather serendipitous. My sister and I seem to be back to
the way we were toward each other before we both "grew up" and got married.
So Thank you all.

Terrific news about Jack, Mary - and even better news about you and
your sister.
I have a friend whose early 50's husband did something similar - at
the time, what they thought happened was that he'd gotten woozy, and
fallen and hit his head (they were at a friends house for dinner, and
he suddenly went partly down a flight of stairs while being given a
tour of their house). Afterwards, it was discovered that he'd had a
stroke, and that caused the fall. Do they know what caused your BIL to
pass out in the first place? I know its the least of the worries about
his recovery, but you have to wonder if they should be watching for
strokes or other vascular events that quite aside from his head injury
from the fall (I'm presuming he fractured his skull when he fell).

You're exactly right, Mary. He did fracture the skull in the fall. And,
no, they don't know why all this happened yet. I'm like you; I suspect that,
since there was no sign of aneurysm, they'll find he had a stroke or
something.
Thanks again for your concern and prayers.
