Does Anyone Else Think This is Ridiculous?

I just got an email from the National Family Caregivers Association
informing me of a free webinar they're putting on about effective
communication with doctors.  Back in September, they also held a webinar,
this one on details about how to deal with Medicaid.  So what's ridiculous
about that, you might ask?  Well, both of these potentially very valuable
and informative presentations were given in the afternoon on a workday.
Now, maybe it's just caregiver stress and I ought to take another Welbutrin
and chill out, But I'm more than just a little incensed about the timing.
Am I the only caregiver to a person with Alzheimer's who happens to be
fully employed and doesn't dare take any more time away from work than I
absolutely need to?  Are all the rest of you who also have this unwanted
responsibility to a sick loved one either retired or independently wealthy?

I'm wondering why an organization that is supposed to be dedicated to the
welfare of caregivers doesn't seem to get it.

Thanks.  I feel a little bit better now.  Not much, but a little...

Hi Allan,

All I can say is that my own experience was that when you are a caregiver
you are usually overextended, exhausted, stressed out, and there is NO good
time when a seminar is convenient.   If you have to leave your loved one to
go to work, it would be assumed you have some sort of daycare?   Then you
would have to get an afternoon off to attend.

So lets say that they had it in the evening instead...... After a long hard
day at work, you would have to find a granny-sitter to attend, and maybe too
tired to fully get into it.   Different families may find it easier to do
the daytime seminar and others the evening one.

You might want to contact the sponsoring organization and ask them if they
would consider doing an evening or weekend seminar.   Otherwise, you will
probably have to work with their present scheduling.

For what it is worth, it sounds like a very good program that covers a lot
of important information.   It is probably worth the extra effort to move
your schedule around so you could go.
