Evelyn - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your father.  I hope
his friend and caregver has a good recovery from the hip surgery.  This
will probably improve his mood.  How did he get along with your mother?
Try to dwell on his goodness. The "golden" years can be difficult.  I am
85 so   know what he has gone thru in his 95 years. God be with you and
your family at this difficult time.

Thank you so much Mary.   She had the surgery yesterday and I have no
idea how she is doing today.   I plan to try and call her tomorrow.  I
sent flowers today.

He was a controlling and somewhat abusive husband.   I have no idea
how my mother took his nonsense for all those years.   She did love
him, nonetheless.

Hi, Evelyn,
That was nice of you to send her flowers.
My mother also had surgery for her hip yesterday.  The surgeon put a
prosthetic device in connecting the femur and the hip.  My mother is in so
much pain and is also very scared.  I stayed at the hospital last night.
She slept well until 2 a.m.  From this time on I rubbed her arms and head,
reassured her she was okay and we sang the "Star Spangled Banner" at least 2
dozen times.  The PT was in today and did some extension exercises.  They
also had her sit on the side of the bed.  Mom is so scared and tense and
this only made it worse.  It's an awful sight to watch.
I hope your father's friend is doing better than my mother.
smiles,
Elise

Elise I talked to her yesterday and she is doing a lot better, looking
forward to her rehabilitation and getting back to the business of
life, though still quite weak.

They had her up and out of bed yesterday, and even taking a few steps
(very painful ones) and then sitting in a chair for a bit.   We talked
for almost an hour about it and I am amazed at her strength.   She is
a feisty gal.   They gave her a couple of units of blood, because she
lost a lot with that break.

If all goes well and there are no complications, I think she will be
fine.

I am sorry your mom is so scared.   Tell her that the worst is over
now, and it is all uphill from here on.   Now she must look toward her
recovery.   Rehab is tough but she can gain back full use of her
hip.   She is lucky to have such a kind and caring daughter.

I would have switched to "America the beautiful" after the first "Star
Spangled Banner."   That song is nearly unsingable due to the range,
whereas "America the beautiful" is much easier to sing :-)

Tell your mom that I send her best wishes for a full recovery and
return to health!

Best Regards,
Evelyn
