A study of almost 250,000 men served by the Veterans
Administration found a protective effect for ibuprofen against
Alzeheimer's.

This has been reported before by other studies, but this
particular study is interesting because of the huge number of
medical records that were surveyed to establish the results.

As I understand it, the study says nothing about whether
ibuprofen can help patients who already have the disease, but it
does appear to show that people who have used ibuprofen for more
then 5 years "had a 40% reduced risk for Alzheimer's Disease".

I don't know how much ibuprofen people had to use and the study
doesn't appear to be able to say how much.  It's based on records
that show prescriptions for ibuprofen at least once per year -
which is very imprecise information.  However I should think that
the huge sample size for the study mitigates that imprecision
quite a bit and indicates that the perceived difference is real
and not some random association.

I'm taking a single 200 mg ibuprofen tablet each day (along with
EGCG and fish oil) in hopes that it's improving my odds of
staying free of the disease.  However, some people can develop
stomach problems from ibuprofen, so it may not be right for
everyone.

The report came out in early May but I didn't see it until today.
