August, Thanks for posting this great link. This should be of great
help to many people who come to this list wanting basic info on how to
cope. Ironically, I came to this board to post for the first time in
many months, because I ran across this article from Mayo Clinic on MSN
this morning:
http://health.msn.com/health-topics/alzheimers-disease/articlepage.aspx?cp-docum
entid=100096537
I also just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this group who post
regularly. Even though I have basically "lurked" for the past couple
of years since my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and
subsequently placed in a nursing home. I appreciated all the advice
from you in getting my dad in for an evaluation and then using "loving
deception" in getting him to the nursing home. It was traumatic for
all of us (my dad was one of the very difficult ones), but it just
helped knowing that others have gone through the same thing and come
out on the other side.
My father passed away on February 12, shortly after his 86th birthday.
Although his death was directly due to a fall in which he broke his
pelvis (and was unable to cooperate with staying immobile ), I can't
be sad that we won't have to continue to watch his decline. It was a
blessing.

Karla, I felt it was a blessing when my husband died. He could not do a
thing for himself and just lay in the bed all the time. That was not
living--just existing. Try to remember all the good things and good times.
