Since mom passed I inherited all the old pictures...I was amazed there
was so many I had never seen...

Anyway there was this tiny little picture of my dad age around 24 taken
in 1949 in Florida...he is doing a handstand on top of the monkey
bars(for lack of better word) I am so amazed with todays technology...I
went into use a photo machine at the store to enlarge and crop it...I
enlarged it to a 8 x 10 and it amazed me how well it came out...I am
gonna take it to the nursing home and hang it on the wall in his
room...my dad was sooooo strong

my mom used to say he was like a bull in a china closet...lol..he isnt
very tall about 5 foot 8 but he was as strong as an ox...I remember one
time he carried my moms old cedar chest (full of stuff) up a flight of
stairs on his back!  My mom of course was having 19 nervous
breakdowns...LOL

My dad was also at Iwo Jima in WWII...recently I saw the two movies made
about it and also the documentary where several of the veterans went
back to revisit their own private hell...the only time my dad (who was
18 at the time) ever talked about the war was the story he told of us
landing on the beach that day....he was in a tank and one guy popped the
hatch and immediately lost his head...my dad even said it was "like a
chicken with its head cut off"....when we pressed him hed say I dont
want to talk about it anymore and so we never knew of the hell he went
through for almost a month

....I can only imagine how horrible that day and the many days
afterward was ...NOW when he gets mad he demands respect saying...first
they tried to starve me (depression) then they tried to kill me
(war)...I AM A VETERAN and you WILL show me respect....my heart goes out
to our young people in IRAQ.....50 years from now I just hope they are
there to tell their children how it REALLY was...PEACE
