The other day I went to pick up Mom for a doctor's app. at her assisted
living and she wasn't in her apartment. I found her in the activity room
playing bingo. I asked her as we were leaving if she had won any money and
she held up a dollar bill. This explains all the dollars bills I had been
finding in her apartment laying around. The activity director referred to
Mom as one of the 3 card sharks living there because she almost always wins
at cards too. Mom was an avid card player in her day. Even won a Bridge
tournament or two. I guess this is one thing the dementia hasn't taken away
...at least not yet.
As we were leaving the Dr. office I pushed a button on my key fob to start
the car from the door of the office since the weather has been so cold here.
Mom exclaimed That's a lot better than cranking them! She's seen me do this
before but she had forgotten. She gets a kick out of it everytime. For
the most part her world is back in the 1920's because she talks of her
childhood often. BTW Mom passed her physical to stay in the assisted
living. I'm so glad she likes it there........June

Hmmmm .......Do you think I should use the dollar bills to buy lottery
tickets? Maybe Mom's due for some good Karma.......June

I think it's great that your Mom still takes an interest in cards
and still plays well. It seems to me it can only be good
for an AD patient to use her mind and concentrate on
something.
