I am a 61 year old woman a little and overweight. I have never posted
to a group before but it seems more and more necessary.

Are there ways to test a person for alzheimers if they think it is
approaching. My father who is now dead had alzheimers and passed away
at 82. I am having strang things happen to my memory!!

Any help would be great

Hi Pauline,

It is VERY important that you get yourself to a doctor and tell them this.
You probably should get tested right away.    Bring a list with you of your
symptoms.  Write them down.

The good news is that there are illnesses that are REVERSIBLE if they are
caught early, that present themselves just like alzheimers disease.   Some
of them are really simple things, such as a vitamin deficiency, low thyroid,
or NPH, normal pressure hydrocephalus.   These are completely reversible
with treatment.

If it does turn out that you have some form of alzheimers, there are
medications out now that can slow the progression, but finding out early is
very important.

And while you are getting your checkup, you should also try to get an
appointment with an elder law specialist lawyer, who can help you to protect
your assets in case you do have it.  No time like the present to get all
your paperwork in order.

Good Luck!

I'd be careful using the internet to obtain such information; there are many
people who might respond improperly.

If it's any help, frequent loss of short-time memory might be a reasonable
indicator, especially if it seems to be getting more frequently.

I'll leave it to others to offer you better suggestions than mine.

Best wishes.

Run away with me; I can make you unhappy.
