Had a look at an interesting article on http://www.dementiatoday.com
about celiac disease and dementia (a small study, but the people
involved had celiac disease and all had dementia not explained from
other causes - its well established that unmanaged celiac disease
causes neurological problems, but this is the first time they've
recognized that it may cause dementia).
In the US, the Mayo clinic says the actual incidence of celiac disease
is about 1 in 133 people. However, in the US the actual diagnosis rate
is 1 in 4,700 Americans - so its a health problem that often goes
unrecognized.
My MIL had a chronic gastrointestinal thing - we have long suspected
she may have actually had gluten problems.

I read the book Dangerous Grains, about gluten intolerance, this winter.
If the doctor who wrote it is even half-right, we're talking a *huge*
health problem. And the problem is, since almost everyone eats gluten
containing products at virtually every meal, the problem is invisible --
it's like asking fish if they're swimming in polluted water.
