Hi,
My mom had 2 days and nights of no sleep. Not a wink.I have had
several people tell me that a full moon can affect people in many ways
and it may have been due to the fact that there was a full moon.I had
heard of this before but dismissed it.Anyone know of this? Her nurse
told me that this is true.Barb

I have heard the same story, but not sure if it is really true. When my
mother in law lived here she had her days and nights mixed up sometimes too.
We found that giving her her medications at night helped, also to give her a
tylenol PM in the evening helped her to fall asleep and stay asleep at
night.
Alzheimers can play havoc with body rhythms. You need to make sure she is
up in the morning, sufficently active during the day, and then she will
sleep better at night. Daycare was a big help for us too, since they
always had an active schedule during the days.
Like children, you need to do what you can to help regulate it..... Good
Luck!

Evelyn,
It's not usually a problem with her sleeping. It is something i am
interested in though. Many nurses and others say they have seen these
same effects with a full moon.I am going to watch on the next full
moon.barb

More likely someone who thinks that is the case, notices when its full moon
and doesnt when it isnt.
Seems to be the opposite in my dads home, most of the residents are asleep
most of the time apart from a few 'restless pacers' :-)

You wont be a reliable witness as likely you actually were asleep part of
the time

Nothing whatever to do with Alzheimers or any other medical condition for
that matter. During baseball season I work as a receptionist/switchboard
operator for our local major league team. Full moon evenings are more
hectic, more goofy questions, more people who can't find their way around,
lose track of where they parked the car, more phone calls, more irritability
when we either can't understand their questions, or have to tell them they
are in the wrong place to have their needs fulfilled. After working on two
successive full moons during my first year there, my coworker and I began to
chart things like the above on full moon nights, compared to a similar busy
evening on an evening falling in another period of the lunar cycle.
We notice a difference.
This is anecdotal and not scientific, I know. But for what it's worth, we
have noticed.
