Something different is going on with my mother. For months she's been
pretty much out of it until last Saturday. She was doing dishes when I
arrived at her apartment. (She NEVER has done this in the past year) Sorted
out her dishes from the assisted living dinnerware. She had it right
except for one glass and even I thought it belonged to them. She then
reached up on top of the refrigerator and gave me some papers that my
brother had left there for me. (Bank and tax statements). We talked and
she seemed so alert. On Sunday she went to my daughter's house for dinner
with my brother like they do every Sunday. My daughter told me that Grandma
had changed and was really with it. When the topic turned to politics
Grandma chimed in and told them that President Truman went through the same
thing that the President is going through now. I still doubt that she knows
who the President is. Usually she doesn't say anything when a group of
people is talking. Then Tuesday when I went to visit her, she was out
taking a walk around the assisted living facility. She hadn't done this in
a while either. I turn on the TV while she takes a shower and it usually
is where I left it the last time I was there.(CNBC) This time it was on TNT
so I know she's been watching TV again. When she came out I told her to put
the TV on anything she liked and she picked up the remote and changed to a
different channel. These things sound small but it has been many months
since she's been able to do them. Part of her is back and I don't know for
how long but it's nice to see it.....June

That's wonderful. Experiences like this seem like a gift.
Is it possible that there's been a change in her medication
that could be influencing this?
I often felt with my mother that she had a great deal of
mental ability and memory still intact, but she couldn't
find the path to it. Sometimes the connections worked
and she came out with very lucid and cogent thoughts.
Other times she seemed to be at sea.
It's a very strange disease and we still have a great deal
to learn about it.

June, how wonderful! My mother in law also had a few times like those.
It was special and for a while she was herself again and it was so nice.
There just is no explaining this illness!

yes, Enjoy it while you can.
Our LO has similar improvements but they never last longer than an hour or
so. The good news is that as the days get longer and there is more sunlight,
she seems to be feeling much better. Weight is back up to 113 from 104.

This is really great to hear, June. I hope it lasts one heck of a
long time.
