False memories and deja-vu

My mother is awaiting diagnosis for her dementia which we think will
turn out to be vascular dementia. Apart from the general confusion and
forgetfulness where she links up unrelated occurrences and believes
them to be one event she also completely fabricates events and believes
them to be utterly true. This can lead to some amusing consequences but
sometimes I find them very distressing and have to spend a great deal
of my time unraveling the truth from fiction and sorting out
misunderstandings between her and other people. Does anyone have any
advice on how to cope with this?

She also gets false deja-vu where she will tell me that all the TV
programmes even the news are repeats. She even rings up broadcasting
companies to complain and thinks that they have run out of money and
all their staff are on strike!! Whenever I take her out in the car she
tells me every pedestrian is always in the same place and the same
sequence of traffic passes. This makes her slightly paranoid and I
sympathize because it must appear to her as if she's on The Truman
Show. There are days when her reply to most things I tell her is
replied to with 'I knew you were going to say that'

Are these symptoms common? What's the best way of dealing with and if
anyone has been through a similar situation what was the next stage of
deterioration if any?

There is no easy answer.

Divert attention to something else if possible.
Dont waste your breath trying to correct her.
Dont ague, move on to something else

All a lot easier said than done, I admit.

Hi majian,  They always say not to bother correcting them, because their
perception is telling them one thing and you will be trying to tell them
another.   I admit that sometimes it is very hard, but it is wiser not to do
it.  The human brain is a strange thing, especially when it is deteriorating
with an illness, and all sorts of illusions can come up.   My mother in law
had so many and so disturbing delusions that our doctor put her on Risperdol
to control them.

It sounds to me as though what your mom is going through is not quite that
bad, but I am sure it is unnerving to you to deal with them.   If I were you
I would just try not answering at all, and immediately change the subject
such as "Oh look at that cute dog over there" or just anything you can point
out to draw her attention away from the delusion.

Sorry I don't have any better tricks for you, and I do know how frustrating
it can be, but her reality is going to be different.   It is because of the
deterioration of her brain, not something that can be explained away to her.

My mother symptoms weren't quite as severe but she always knew people that
she couldn't have known and generally would say she had been places that she
probably hadn't been and yes everything was a rerun on TV.   Also she would
lie about things.  It's better to accept that your mother as a mental
illness than to try to correct her.   It takes a bit of detaching yourself
from her illness.  Not easy but you'll feel better and get along easier with
her.   Just nod your head, bite your tongue and say to yourself it's the
illness not her.  If you really need to know the truth as to her
interactions with other people ask them, you will never get a straight
answer from her.   As my mother's illness has progressed this stopped.  I
have to start most conversations and she talks mainly about her childhood.
If I ask a question about something back in her past she will say "Now how
did that go?"  If she really concentrates on something she might remember
but it generally has to be from the 1920's, 30's and maybe early 40's.
Hope this helps.......June

I don't know how common these symptoms are, but I can tell you that my
mother had similar symptoms for a few years.  Indeed, one of the big,
screaming signs that there was something wrong with Mom other than a
little age-related memory loss was that she started hallucinating stuff
that never happened, and being convinced those hallucinations were real,
no matter how little sense they made.

As for the false deja vu, that's familiar, too.  Last March when she
stayed with me for ten days, whenever we went out she'd point to this or
that building and say, "I've been in there."  If I'd say "Um, Mom,
that's a radiologist's office.  Why would you have been in there?" she'd
get defensive.  I learned to let it go.

But the hallucination thing can cause genuine trouble.  At one point Mom
hallucinated that some evil man had called her and told her that he was
going to steal all her money.  She went out that day and closed all of
her bank accounts; it took my brother a week to get it straightened out.

I'm afraid my best advice for how to cope is to get your mother into
competent care if she can possibly afford it.  Unless you (or you and
whatever other family members can be counted on) can keep an eye on her
24/7, she really needs to be in care at this point.  And personally, I
wouldn't try to do it yourselves unless you have at least three or four
of you who can trade off duty.  It's just too big a burden.

I realized that the symptoms of alzheimers is constant bluffing
and she aggrevates on them. Something in her knows, but
she doesn't let go. She needs to have her side of the story
told. She is not aware of reality.

I don't know, but I can only speculate. Ronald Reagan was
an actor, he had alzheimers. Being in a mood of an actor,
alsways speaking. In the past days I was thinking about
alzheimers, just in general. I knew only one person, and
I only met him once who had alzheimers.

Would you believe that alzheimers is only a spell? Like
the never-ending-story, speaking to one's delusions, and
not to people or to reality, delusions take over. I figured
that dementia is very related to madness, where madness
is constant rational thinking, dementia is constant irrational
feeling, both demented, and that dementia is feeding those
thoughts. Since they are related, I figured that though experts
recommend an active life for people with dementia, and they
found it helps, it's the underlieing stress that is there, and
that can be cured with anti-depressants. If madness can
be cured, why not alzheimers? One important point is that
new memory does correspond with memory braincell growth,
and that means that memory that fades away can be
caused by hormones that cause white matter loss. If the
interest is only on annoying things, people forget. That
happens to everybody.

Print this out, take this theory from me, speak to a doctor,
I think I found the cure perhaps. Let me know if my theory
turns out to be true.

It may seem paradoxical, as the first symptom of antidepressants
would be an even weaker memory function. Like a complete memory
loss. But I think that should be ok, ask the doctor. Because
I think a recovery begins. She is using her memory in the right
part of the brain. Paradoxical because doctors see activities
as a good option to treat alzheimers, when it is the calm that
should be a treatment, even reversing the brain damage and
sparking memory growth. But according to my understanding,
using antidepressants could start a long recovery. I am almost
sure that this should work. But, that's me.

I'm not sure about the rational of your theory, or what your trying to
imply.

I think that these early stages of dementa are like filing deficits.
The brains capacity for effective storage is going haywire, like a bad
filing clerk accepts in coming documents from different sources, cuts
them up and puts them into different files, then when the files are
accessed and the information is put together again you end up with
documents that appear to be from one source, something tells you that
the pieces dont quite fit but that's the  information you have so you
make the best of it and use it. Everyone else knows that this is not
right and then the filing clerk (i.e the brain) gets the blame.

I agree that the awareness of something not quite right is stressful.
I do bite my tounge and try not to show that things are not what they
ought to be. But I do see her looking at me disapprovingly and she
often chastises me for not beliving her.

This stage I find emotionally difficult. My mother was always a
dominant character there has only ever been her way of doing things,
she was always right. For a quiet life, my sisters and I never openly
rebelled, for the most part just quietly got on with our lives in our
own way keeping as much of what she might disapprove of away from her.
Now that that pattern of behaviour is ingrained she still mantains
that aura of dominance and any slight inconcurrance with what she
belives to be true is deemed rebellious behaviour!!
So the brief period of my adult life is on hold, where I had just got
to the point where I stood up for my beliefs, not hitting my kids, not
ever believing in a god, divorcing the man who was unfaithful etc etc.
Dealing with this disease is a lot more complicated than simply
treating symptoms.

Dominant character. Reagan had a dominant character. My theory
is that as an American actor and politician he was bluffing. Like
the never ending story, with each bluff made, a memory from
where one comes from fades, like a spell. I am not a real doctor
as you may have guessed. I believe in spells, I believe that anybody
can have alzheimers if constant annoying thoughts cause memory
loss (it does). The annoying thoughts you descrive become like
witchcraft. Reagan was highly into astrology. He only agreed to
political meetings worldwide if the stars were right according to
his family astrologist. I merely realized that there is a relation
between madness and alzheimers, only that the two occur
in different parts of the brain, but both represent dementia.
Madness can be cured with antidepressants or mood controllers.
I believe that antidepressants could work for alzheimers.

The onset of alzheimers is a mild brain damage. That damage has an
effect on a person like witchcraft. A person is demonized, and the
endless annoying thoughts release a hormone that deletes memory, white
matter. It was thought in the past that people are born with a number
of braincells. It is now known that new memories form white matter in
the brain, and based on that finding, we can conclude that given a
certain mood found in senile people, in a state of mood when people
are constantly annoyed about something, the natural tendency of a
person is to become forgetful when being like that. I think we have a
nature that hormones are released that cause memory loss. But being
stuck with demenia, new memories are not formed. But the underlieing
problem is the hormone in the brain that is produced during a demented
state of mind. Since memory is lost over time, the demenia grows as a
person gets ever more disoriented. But I also found that madness is a
state of dementia, but in a personality change way. A person can
become the algorithms in math, so the brain does not lose a
personality and memories gradually, but acquires a new one instead,
but it is demented. The cause is demenia, and in madness the brain
works differently than in alzheimers. The point is that in madness,
demenia is cured, the same thing that causes alzheimers in ordinary
people. Demenia or dementia, I am not of English descent.

By the way, I have a bunch of friends who practice witchcraft; there's
no demons involved, nor any belief in Satan.

And its like telling children that George Bush does not like to make
wars.

That a bluff did not start the Iraq war (and now the Iran war is
breaking out based on the same claims that Iran harbors terrorists).
Do you see that it is a bluff?

What is a bluff? Do senile old people tend to bluff all the time,
speak to themselves, seem angry? Those who are constantly annoyed tend
to become forgetful, that is true for everybody.

My mother got worse when she went on antidepressants.  She was more
cheerful, but her memory was no better, her hallucinations didn't go
away, and she rapidly became paranoid and resentful of those who were
trying to care for her.

Not on denial. On Reagan's "bluffing" as actor, as Washington

In fact I think you numb people's minds like a nurse who is marshing
around in a schizophrenic house, but ended up on an outdoor table,
plates, swords for eating. A happy time.

The Devil is growing up. He sits and laughs, but now more like a
big King. His beast is happy, and has a slave. The beast has
skin as black as coal, black, beams red light, black, beams red light,
when he is happy.

Blood squirts, some like the meat red.

The Devil and the coal beast, and the beast's slave are a special
guest
for this feast.

hate campaigning, stalking that is. Psychosis is schizophrenia, a
schizophrenic barbaric supremacy. We are the smartest humans

In days of slavery, the situation was the same. There was
the all-wise slave owner.

But so did Kings knew best what's best for the people.

The situation is simple. Derranged psychopaths always
wanted to rule the world and establish Bush's Universal
for all to fight 4.

This is the 21st century freak.

Now you know.
gb6726@yahoo.com - 01 Feb 2007 01:45 GMT
I am not a human rights activist. I am a cannibal. I eat people.
The only reason I eat people, is because there is a level.

I found that in the United States, I am a lifetime dissindent
and peace activist, and there is a level, in fact, one day I
found a craving for eating people, whom I now refer to as
'monsters'. For breakfast it is ok to refer to a meal as one
made of a pig.

Never mind, you won't understand. Just eat, vote, and live.
gb6726@yahoo.com - 01 Feb 2007 01:58 GMT
What I am talking about is the world. You don't see any more.
It is never-ending story. A level grew between us and you.

A hint: 80-90 percent of Arabs now think negatively of Americans,
while in the past Arabs thought positively of Americans.

Bush is erecting a model Roman Democracy in the mid-East,
erecting Iraq as a model that will be better than Arabs.

Does this make any sense any more?

Bush said Saddam was harboring terrorists. Two days
ago Bush said Iran is harboring terrorists, and Bush is
planning for a war.

There is a level, man.
gb6726@yahoo.com - 01 Feb 2007 02:04 GMT
Huns were cannibals. They kicked the romans' ars. Attila the Hun
in the 5th century ate two of his kids. He killed his brother for half
the empire. His cotere of wives killed two of his sons and prepared
them as Attila's gulash.

Cannibals were by far more advanced than the Romans. The model
Democracy of the world was destroyed. Attila had an army of 700
thousand in the fifth century. The style of the Huns was too
advanced for the sluggish Romans.
gb6726@yahoo.com - 01 Feb 2007 02:07 GMT
The Huns are coming.
gb6726@yahoo.com - 01 Feb 2007 02:18 GMT
This is what the cannibals see:

While there was not one Iraqi killing an American in history,
Bush claimed Iraq harbors terrorists.

Now Bush claimed Iran harbors terrorists.

According to a jewish study, 80-90 percent of Arabs now
think negatively of Americans, while in the past Arabs thought
positively of Americans.

By a million percent, the biggest terrorist is Bush.

Normally one would stop this madness and crimes against
humanity.

Racism is all else, Iraq today is being erected as a model
country for the whole Arab world, a model Roman Democracy,
a country that would be better than Arabs. A supremacy,
in all regards an illegal invasion, illegal politics and crimes
against humanity that went out of control.

Demented people control the world. And then see Blair,
he is demented, like Bush.

http://italy.indymedia.org/uploads/2003/07/bush_and_blair.jpg

How does one cure dementia?

How does one make Bush see all the problems, in that
way, he wouldn't do what he does, and he would not be
demented. The dementia is insanity that an empire does,
and forgot that the USA is not just a regime and empire,
but a country. In fact most see, but are disturbed from
what Americans should see, but do not, and what remained
in the USA is dementia, as humanity.

It is a question, what is dementia. One thinks of knights.
One sees the things that are not our time, but ancient,
brutal, Bush's America lost track of the current times,
of the 90's. And having lost track, one is peceived as
demented.
gb6726@yahoo.com - 01 Feb 2007 02:22 GMT

Your determination is a great humanitarian loss, your sadistic
tendencies are immense, not to mention a great loss for any form
of life and peace dissidentry. What remains, is a monster that
ever loses its, its, its, a human degradation into rot and dementia.

because it spoils the view.

Saddam's Iraq and North Korea did not allow satellite
dishes because of the information, but in the USA it
was because satellite dishes spoil the view of the
community.

Around 2001, the supreme court slammed down
bans on satellite dishes as people had the right

You know, here I am a cannibal, and a King of that, talking about
a lifetime dissidentry and peace activism. But people react to
intelligence,
and they don't like it, they call it a troll. So I try to be like
them, a cannibal
like them, vicious, patriotic about world peace, and threatening back,
calling the world police on them, reporting them to the UN and to the
Interpol (International Police Organization). Because being smart is
being a rude patron. Sure one might say troll, but that is a human
rights
violation, really. They only see their side, and that is sad. Lack of
any
human dignity is horrible, but it is the world on the net, like that,
they want authority. History always causes harm based on cruelty
and envy.

I am not just a cannibal. I eat people obsessively.

Psychopathic madness filling the world, causing relentless hate
everywhere.

I am not going to cure anybody, and if I try, they viciously attack,
in ways that make a level maximum. The loss of human consciousness
is why I came here. This is the place of dementia. I am aware of

Do not submit to the empire or become demented. Why would
a cannibal want to submit to an empire where all the barbaric
monstrocities yell from old women's mouths as curses. No.
A cannibal is quiet and eats people and is not interested in
the King. A cannibal lives in roots underground and makes
up stories.

She sits and treats all newcomers with Bush style unprecedented
psychosis. Extreme discrimination, extreme supremacy, extreme
ku klux klan inbreded in the cyber instincts, a supremacy disorder,
one of a fascist inclined supremacist who wants blood, who
blackmails all political opponents, who declares a capitalist
rule of law above all, who looks above the crowd, who wants
to see the people cheering, an authoritarian (territorial like Saddam
aims to eliminate all political opponents with greed and framing)
then he slowly raises his arm, and the authority speaks for the
first time in public.

A protest would mean nothing to them. The success of an empire takes
all precedence. Repression, empire, and OH PLEASE evil laughter
and humiliation, a supremacy disorder personality goes extreme
and makes fame as invincible, and all words are one of being
invincible. The American in mind, Capitalism embraced as
Capitalist law of order above all, the fascist authority prevails
as power from now on for them. It is as Soros said, us and
them, a ruler claims all to pay dues, a ruler decides, a ruler
becomes an executioner, and the job is taken to the end as
that, though the world suffers. Mind control takes no chance.

One asks why.

He looks around and finds 1st Lt. Ehren Watada who spoke of the
President
and of the Iraq war and was arrested for making contempt toward other
officials. Say there are things going on that are not normal. Things
changing,
and people who were not there when it all broke out after 9/11 notice
things that are changing and are wrong. 80-90 percent of Arabs now
think negatively of Americans, while in the past Arabs thought
positively
of Americans. What's going on, this is racism. A lot of people when
the Iraq war broke out protested against a racist war. How can America
be so alienated, so brutal like an Empire trying to rule above Arabs.
Iraq is being erected TODAY as a model for the whole Arab world,
a roman model Democracy so to speak. This is not intelligent to
fight for an Iraq that is a model for the whole Arab world, a country
better than Arabs. A racist dictatorship of an empire that went hard
core and demands barbarically disregarding all for HIS interests.

Why? 1st Lt. Ehren Watada was arrested for making contempt
toward other officials for speaking of a problem that effects all
people. A general concern, while those making Republican
concerns are not arrested. Months after his arrested in court
he was declared a desertes.

It is all about us or them. An extreme that fights for a Democracy,
but neglects it for his power as ruler, as he claims, and demands
dues to be paid to King, and tells all to shut up. He becomes
barbaric.

In a barbaric country, reality has nothing to do with anything,
all becomes sentiment of power, an identity with power.

Prisoners are jailed and sentimentally expected to suffer,
as was the case in any ancient empires. Schwarzenegger
refused to refute the death sentence of a man whose writings
in prison were nominated for the Nobel Prize. Schwarzenegger
claimed the man did not show enough remorse for his crimes
to the families of the victims.

In reality, she who is raped, the last she wants is for the
rapist to come and make up. But Schwarzenegger and the
racist society wants prisoners to suffer for their crimes.
And this is in reality a crimes against humanity discrimination.

In Europe, a person is not free when in jail and free when
out of jail. In the USA one lives with records, one is expected
to report to the government, and the government is expected
to protect the people. It is called authoritarianism. Austrians
after Schwarzenegger's refusal to refute the death sentence
of that man said: authoritarianism is not necessary and it
is barbaric, and Schwarzenegger's home town renamed a
stadium they named after Schwarzenegger once. (This event
held Schwarzenegger from visiting his home last year.)

Bush like a mafia used 9/11 for his interests, and like
a mafia blackmails people if they are with Saddam and
the terrorists or with the President, if Democrats are
flip floppers like Saddam or with the country, of course
Democrats voted for the Iraq war, but it was blackmail.
Bush wanted a puppet government, and signed an
agreement with Nancy Pelosi that she wouldn't stop
the Iraq war, and that she wouldn't impeach him. This
was when the Democrats won the control of the house
in the mid-term elections.

What was born was an extreme relationship between
Democrats and Republicans and between the world.
An extreme power that seeks to win no matter what,
and take the course to the end, and an extreme
sociological condition made fanaticism. To radicalize
George Bush, the Republicans raged sociological wars
as means to use power rather than diplomacy in all
regards. Now there is war on everything. George Bush
speaks of world enemies and the Capitalist rule of law
(as Communism would be a rule of law), now it is the
Capitalist Power that takes it's rulership over the world
and politics.

Of course, Hitler may have called it a liberation using
racist means and visions to take control of the world
as a super-power, but he was a dictator and the world
saw an invasion, as Arabs and the world sees an
invasion by the erection of an Iraq as a model Democracy.
A barbarism that went extreme, Republicans intend
to rule the world by all means of mind control, framing,
and taking. A mental illness.

Everything is discarded and whored.

The American weakness is like Google, thinking little of people, and
filling everything with
warnings while raping human rights.

The Google warning above when I post: "The group you are posting to is
a Usenet group. Messages posted to this group will make your email
address visible to anyone on the Internet."

Don't people know that is message is posted, people will see it?

It is a mentality that lives on repressing all political opponents, as
Capitalist extremists,
as organizations that invest in illegal mind control and fascism and
illegal human
rights violations driven by the bloodiest sentiment of an empire.

On top of it crimes against humanity. Psychotic terrorizing forms of
stalking,
terrorizing, hate campaigning, humilating, discriminating as sick
idiots of
merciless dictatorial, territorial monsters. Ku klux klan.

The lowest. The lowest.

With all the power invested in me, humanity declares a crimes against
humanity, and you are labeled 'food'. You will see that humanity is
hungry, and that humanity is hungry for you and for your demented
megalomania of bluffing, to serve the bloody mafia, to discriminate
in a relentless mode living for fear, keeping fear, and
superstitiously
framing and taking and living the American dream that is now suffering
a crime of a megalomaniacal stalker and criminal mafia brain, aka
Brain Buffington Power that now framed Iran as well for harboring
terrorists.

In all regards, a level.

To end the Brain Bluffington Power,

is to understand.

Not one Iraqi in history killing Americans, but it was Iraq harboring
terrorists.

Now it is Iraq harboring terrorists.

Bush turned the Arab world, and now 80-90 percent of Arabs think
negatively of Americans, while in the past Arabs thought positively
of Americans.

The only terrorist is Bush, by a billion percent.

But you live in the dark.
