Aluminum causes Alzheimers ?
Well we know how the smoking industry pressured scientests to disprove
that smoking causes cancer.
Well not according to INFOWATCH funded by Smith and Harroff who was
hired by Alan Aluminum:
"Medical research scientists have for years explored whether or not
there is a link between aluminum and Alzheimer's disease. But a
causal link has never been established, and medical opinion is that
aluminum is far down the list of probable causal factors. Nevertheless,
the persistence of claims - particularly in Canada and the UK -
that aluminum was a significant contributor to the disease led to
unjustifiable fears about exposure to aluminum. The industry's
communications activities were having little positive impact.
Consequently, Alcan, the world's largest primary aluminum producer,
retained Smith & Harroff in 1989 to develop and implement a strategy to
deal with the issue. "
"Smith & Harroff placed experts on scientific and medical panels at
professional symposia and conferences to speak directly to the issue,
and distributed information from highly qualified scientists to the
medical news media and health care professionals. To open and maintain
a pipeline of information to these audiences on Alzheimer's disease,
Smith & Harroff created and distributed a bi-monthly "Infowatch"
newsletter summarizing articles and other information about
Alzheimer's disease.
THE RESULTS
The information campaign resulted in measurable improvements in media
coverage, new and stronger relations between the aluminum industry and
Alzheimer's disease organizations in both the U.S. and Canada, and
professional peer pressure on the few scientists responsible for
sensationalizing the link between the product and the disease.
>From this targeted campaign came improved public opinion. Pre- and
post-campaign polling in Canada and in the U.S. showed significant
declines in the percentages of people who believed aluminum was a cause
of Alzheimer's disease. "

As Christ was betrayed for a handful of silver, so it is with the many
truths about Alzheimers and its many causes...copper, and aluminum ?
Well the logic is quite simple any metal will short circuit the electro
chemical processes in the body and mind...
Truth can lie...when the truth is only part of the whole Truth....

None the less, no causal link *has* been established between aluminum
and Alzheimer's. It is perfectly possible that the accumulation of
aluminum in the brains of Alzheimer's patients is a symptom of the
disease - that the brain cells are predisposed by the desease to
accumulate more of the metal - rather than a cause. All the moral
posturing in the world won't change hard, cold fact.
On the other hand, I do avoid using aluminum vessels in which to do my
cooking - just in case.
Blessed be,
Baird

Dear Baird,
My mother in law never cooked in anything but stainless steel pots.
She got it anyway. My father who is 93 and going strong, has used
aluminum pots almost exclusively all his life (that I know of) and he
hasn't got alzheimers at all, but he is definitely not totally "all
there" due to some vascular issues.

Hi,
I'll put a tentative paddle in the water here. I heard about this
controversial issue and took a look at what my mother in law might have
done to be exposed to aluminum compounds. She didn't usually use
aluminum cookware but had stainless steel. pyrex, and stone cooking
vessels. She used "antiperspirant" deoderant which includes aluminum
salts to supress perspiration. The work I did required perspiration to
survive the heat so my co-workers and I all used deoderant products
without the "antipersirant" option; thus we did not cuddle up to the
aluminum salts. We also do not have any signs of AD, yet (all retired
now). This hardly constitutes a scientific study but if you are
concerned about the aluminum contribution you should be looking for all
of the possible aluminum exposures. We might absorb more aluminum from
those salts on our skin than from food cooked in aluminum kettles.
