Went to my PCP today and found that my heart is still fibrillating.  He said
that probably is the reason I am still so weak, but he also drew blood to
check my potassium since I'm on lasix.  He let me start back on tramadol for
my arthritis, and I am so glad.  I hardly slept last night from hurting just
about
all over, particularly neck, upper back and right hand and wrist.  I even
got up at 6:30 this AM--usually sleep until at least 10.  Ate breakfast at
7:30 and didn't eat again before I went to my 12:30 appointment.

Didn't get in to see Doc until about 2:00, and when I looked for my car keys
to leave, found them on the front seat of the car where I had dropped them
when I got out of the car.  I called my Motor Club only to be told it had
expired.  Told her nobody had notified me and she went ahead and put in a
call for emergency service.  The wind was cold and I waited outside a while,
then called her and said have them check for me at the main hospital
entrance because I was staying inside.  That worked, and I finally left the
hospital at 3:45. I was so hungry that I went to KFC and had a chicken
breast (original recipe
please) and a Pepsi.  The chicken wasn't salty at all so I just am not
worrying about whether or not I got too much sodium today!

This doctor is always very busy and I always have to wait a while, but he
is so good that I take a book and really don't mind.  Besides, one of the
nurses is a good friend and always loads me up with samples.  Really worth
waiting for!

Gwen,

I don't know if this will work for you, but many people have
found that swimming is a wonderful tonic for arthritis.  It is said
to work because the water holds up the weight of your body
so you can flex and move the joints, and work the muscles,
without straining the joints.

I read a book once by a woman in her 60's who was crippled
by arthritis.  She joined a health club with an indoor pool and
spent an hour in the pool every day.  For the first few weeks
all she could do was tread water, but gradually she loosened
up and began to swim more and more.  After several months
she was able to get around easily and had lost most of her
pain.  It was not a cure.  If she stopped swimming she would
gradually stiffen up again, and she never recovered the ability
to lift heavy weights.  But she greatly increased her mobility
and greatly reduced her pain.

I'm a big believer in exercise for arthritis.  I have it in my
fingers.  It got to the point where I was having pain when I
type - which I do all day long as a computer programmer.
I started doing lots of regular exericise for my hands and
the problem is now under control.  I can use my hands and
type all day without pain.  None of the drugs I tried helped,
but exercise worked.

Thanks for the suggestion Alan.  I went to the Arthritis Exercise class at
the YMCA pool, but the water was so cold I couldn't take it.
I had to just do the exercises;  I can't swim except under water and can't
hold my breath very long!

Hi Gwen, not sure where you're located geographically.

But I would recommend that you ask around and see if the Arthritis
Foundation program for water exercise is available anywhere nearby in a warm
water pool.

When I'm sticking to an optimum schedule (which I confess is not always the
case) I attend a local park district class offered through the AF which is
held in a warm water pool.  The warm water makes all the difference.

I tried their "water walking" maneuvers ONCE in a regular pool, nearly
shivered to death and have never repeated it, so I know exactly what you're
talking about.
