Well both are doing fine...we spent some time with granddad yesterday, and
little A seems back to his normal self, well almost.

Granddad was ok yesterday, he sent me donw to the shops, to get some washing
powder, as he likes to do his own undies.

Thanks for all your messages about little A, glad to say hes ok...

I'm so happy to hear that, Jules.   I was going to write you to ask.

Jules, I read about what happened to Arthur and your update here (was
away on vacation for a while).  I'm glad to hear Arthur's doing well.
I'm curious - what are they doing about his broken teeth?  Did they
yank them or cap them?

Wow, I'm glad the two of you are doing well.  It sounds like your
Grandfather is doing well also and that's excellent.

Did anything ever happen from the 'legal end'?  Or is that on hold
right now

Hey Charles

Arthurs ok now, not a problem, infact today we went to see granddad for a
hour...i borrowed a digicam, so there is a 20mb movie which i hope people
like of our visit...for some reason its avi rather than a mpeg, so i think
it works best in a media player that isnt microsoft, for some reason when i
use that i get no pic, only works for me in videolan ok....

They left his teeth, its not causing him any problems.

I havent got any more money for lawyer visits at the moment, losing my p/t
job didnt help

Grandfather was fine today, he was just eating so we waited in his room
until he had done.

As we was leaving i call into the main livng room where there was a load of
old fogies and they stroked Arthur...

cheers
Jules

Hi Julian,

Great video and Arthur's barking got my dogs barking and looking for the
strange doggie all over the house.   Your grandad is looking a bit thinner.
How's he doing?

Hi Evelyn

Granddad is eating like a horse, i agree hes a lot slimmer, but eating
well...active etc so im not too concerned, i just wish i could take him out
for the day now and again...

Arthur likes to be the center of attention, hence the barking and if he
wants something he just asks!!!

Jules:

Great to hear that your Grandfather is still eating good.  When my Aunt
was diagnosed with Alzheimers that was the worst part of it.  She just
stopped eating even though for the longest time, everything else except
her memory was OK.  But then she started loosing weight and you could
see it was taking her toll, yet she didn't even know.  Hopefully, he'll
continue eating as he should.

Same with my mother in law.  She lost a lot of weight, but I think that was
mostly because she forgot how to cook.   When she came to live with us, the
thing she liked most was my home made soup.   She would always eat home made
soup.   Forget about trying to get her to eat canned soup though!   Not to
brag, but I do make awesome soup.  :-)

Sounds pretty tasty, Evelyn!  My Aunt would still eat "junk" type food
after she lost her appetite for regular food.  I would bring it to her
when I was out that way visiting because I think (hope?) it was better
than her eating nothing.

Hi Charles, now that you mention it, Ida would LOVE it when, if we were out
shopping, I would take her to Burger King and get her a cheeseburger with
french fries.  That was a real treat to her.   She was of the generation
that seldom ate out, and not having a car, that type of fast food was a rare
treat.    She would love to toss bits of her bread out for the little birds
that lurked near by.

But that was in the beginning when she was still quite functional.   It
wasn't too long before going shopping with me became too difficult for her.
As her illness progressed she ate less, and lost mobility.    We don't know
if her appetite issues had anything to do with the fact she later was
diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, or a side issue of the alzheimers, or even
something to do with the medications.    But others have also reported
difficulties in getting their loved ones to eat, so whatever the cause, I
usually do mention the fact when the subject comes up.

Evelyn:

This is very ironic because it was also a "Burger King" where I would
pickup the "junk food" for my Aunt to eat.  When I'm eating fast food,
I don't usually go to Burger King, but this one was right next to where
she was staying and they appeared to have a lot of various deserts, so
I'd get her some of those along with a cheeseburger.  It seemed to make
her happy for a while.  At that point, she wasn't able to really go
out.

It was strange that every time I saw her I didn't think it could get
worse, and every time I went back it was worse.

That is the one constant about this illness.   It does get worse.  In time
it gets way worse.   One of our long time posters, Mary Gordon always says
"this is as good as it is going to get."    She is right.

About burger King.  That is the only fast food (junk food) that I actually
do like.  Once in a great while I will buy a kids meal for myself.   I get a
little bitty burger, a tiny bit of fries, a small soda, and a toy for next
time the grandkids come over.

Evelyn:

Yea, I think Mary is correct.  Once it starts it never gets any
"better".

I usually stick with McDonald's or Arby's nowadays for my own fast food
binges - which I try to limit!

I don't like either of those, only BK and only very rarely.

Evelyn, if I ever wanted french fries I went to Burger King.  They are the
only ones that I like so sometimes I would just get fries and coke.  Guess
those days are over though!

Maybe not, Gwen.   I hear that most of the fast food places are finally
changing to healthier kinds of fats.  It is going to be a law here in NY,
and some of them are changing voluntarily before the law says the must.
The problem is the trans-fats, which are nasty little carcinogenic chemicals
that form when they hydrogenate vegetable oils to make them harder like
margerine is.

My problem would be the salt (sodium) Evelyn.  Only supposed to have 2000 mg
per day.

I wonder if you can ask for some things without salt in any of those places.
Hmmmm....

Jules:

I'm sorry to hear you lost your part-time job, but glad that Arthur is
fine and that you're still seeing your Grandfather, despite the lack of
funds.

Keep up the great work!
