Well, hell. Mom seemed to be settling in well at the group home, but
she's developed a really odd form of sundowning -- in the middle of the
night she overturns armchairs, strips off all her clothes, and crawls
into bed with other residents. My sister had to hire a private duty
nurse last night to keep mom corralled while the resident caregivers got
some sleep.
Mom's going to be transferred yet *again* on Thursday, this time to UCSD
for a 10-14 day evaluation, to see if some adjustment in medication can
help this. I find myself wondering if the solution is just to give her
a sleeping pill in the mid-evening, so she goes to bed and sleeps
through, but I suspect that's overly simplistic...

the right medication for my MIL has made all the difference - she went from
all sorts of nasty behaviours to sleeping through the night from the very
first night she switched from zyprexa to respiridol ..... she's slept
through the night without fail EVERY night since last November - and she's a
heck of a lot happier during the day as well.
No guarantees that it'll be the same for you, of course - but its certainly
worth trying to find the right combination, IMO

Dana, I surely hope they will find the right combination of drugs for her.

Hi Dana
You might want to make sure that they are not allowing your mother to
nap during the day or hang out in front of the TV dozing. Obviously you
want her as active as possible, so she's actually tired at night.
