Dear Friends,
Today we got results (kind of) of the MRA & EEG John had. At this point
he will be given a SPECT test & a thyroid test. The doctor is
checking for Hashimoto's encephalitis among the other things. John's
blood pressure was real high today, so we came home with new blood
pressure medicine & steroids.
The doctor said John is young for AD but...and skipped on to ordering
the SPECT test & mentioned some thyroid problems can influence memory.
After giving us the two prescriptions, he said he wants to see us in 8
weeks & causally mentioned there are medicines to help with memory.
I'm reading between the lines as John didn't do too well on some of the
memory questions. It was interesting because when the nurse gave him
the three items to remember, he commented they were the same as last
time. But after he spelled world backwards, he missed one of the three
items on recall. He also said it's spring & that Biloxi is in Jackson
County---we live in Jackson; Biloxi is Harrison---He got that right at
his last appointment.
My part of the appointment went fine--just need to get my carotid
arteries checked & a glucose tolerance test.
We have "couples appointments" now!!
Always,
Char

Char, thanks for keeping us updated. Let us know how the rest comes out if
you will, please. The couples' appointments are good!

I'm vaguely fascinated with the idea of Hashimoto's encephalitis. I
have Hashimoto's disease (diagnosed 17 years ago), and I'd never heard
of it the encephalitis. Did some reading (as I'm sure you have) and
wow. Very interesting.
Its did all kinds of wierd and not so wonderful things to me prior to
diagnosis and treatment, but thank god, no encephalitis. Sounds very
scary.
You'll soon know if you see some turn around with the steroids.

Sorry I've taken so long to gt back to you. It took awhile for me to
find the H encephalitis. Still haven't decided what to think. Tomorrow
will mark a week that John's been on the steroids. So far I really
haven't seen a change. John says things seem different; I told him
maybe the steroids are lifting that constant fogginess that he feels &
that's why things seem different. In any case, he says he'll keep
taking them. Quite a change from the John who used to want to throw
medicine a way after one or tow doses!

Char, surely hope the steroids do work.

I really hope it works. Looked up H encephalitis and most things said it
could take a couple of months for the steroids to work. So guess patience is
the watchword.

I feel fairly certain Easter is talking about glucophage. Not sure about it helping with alzheimers though, but it does help reduce insulin resistance.
