Hard to say from your description but suggest you get expert advice from
a physician/psychiatrist for accurate diagnosis of our problem(s) and
appropriate treatment.

Vans, you need to get to a doctor.   There are medications out now that can
really help if you are having memory problems, and the same for the
depression.   But first you need to get tested and diagnosed as to exactly
what is causing the problem.   There are many different possibilities, and
some are fixed easily and some are not.  Only your doctor can tell you which
is which.

you need medical help.  depression can cause memory problems, as
can some medications --- some statins for treating cholesterol,
for instance.

if your primary care doc is not up on treating depression, ask
for a referral to a psychiatrist.  you might have to try several
meds before you find what works for you.

Vans,
I've had anxiety and depression issues also - I come by them honestly -
its genetics, not character failure. My father was a manic depressive,
and his mother had such serious depression issues she was a suicide
back in 1953, back before there were any effective meds or other
treatments.

I'm on Zoloft, and it really helps. My issues are not so much
depression as anxiety, and it can really spiral out of control without
the Zoloft. I know its not rational, and its not triggered by life
events (although its certainly exacerbated by stressful situations).
I'm sticking with the meds. When I have come off them a couple of
times, thinking I would be okay and spiralled into a knot. Can't eat,
can't sleep, can't think, can't remember anything, irritable, etc. etc.
I've been to various shrinks and psychologists over the years, and I
know for sure, talk therapy doesn't do a darned thing for me at all -
but the meds turn me around on a dime, so its not the way I look at
things, or deal with things, or anything that happened to me as a child
- its a biological thing. Different drugs and approaches work for
different people, and sometimes all someone needs is a short course to
pull them out of the ditch.

See a doctor!! Who knows what the answer to your issues is, but help is
available, and no one needs to suffer like you are now.
