Do not open any message with an attached filed called "Invitation"
regardless of who sent it
It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which "burns" the whole hard disc
C of your computer.

Sorry ladylove77 but it seems to be a hoax.

It may be a hoax, but I make it a practice to delete anything from anyone I
don't recognize, especially if it contains an attachment.   So far this has
been pretty helpful.   I also keep my anti-virus protection up to date.

Another thing I have discovered over the years, is that I have my email
program set up so that there is no visible "preview pane" which is a kind of
"opening" of an email and sometimes that mere act of opening a bad email is
enough to infect your computer.   So I changed the layout of my email
program so it doesn't show a preview pane.

It is unfortunate, but we live in a world where these measures are
necessary.

and to ladylove77 and everyone else:  the snopes.com site, and
the symantec norton anti-virus site both have good hoax reference
pages.  ANYTIME anyone asks you to pass a message on to everyone
you know, it's 99% certain that it's a hoax.  PLEASE check
snopes.com before wasting the bandwidth and everyone else's time
by forwarding hoax emails.

Dennis,
What is your problem? Your always such a jerk.Maybe you need some
anti-depressant.You let things get to you wayyy to easy.Barb

Maybe he gets a jillion of them every day from well meaning people like I
do?  My Mom wants to get on the net and I'm not looking forward to it
because I know it'll increase the volume I'm already receiving.

Any time it says forward to everyone you know, please don't.  In the last 8
years, I've actually seen one that was real, honest to God information.  I
keep my email set to only read in plain text and dread getting a 4 MgB email
from one of my friends that seem to be impelled to send enough fairies,
flowers, puppies or whatever.

I know they mean well, but you have no idea how many computers in an office
environment get tied up by the "pass this on to everyone you know" emails.
Sigh!

No, what is YOUR problem.  The woman was spreading a well known
hoax.  I, and many other folks, are sick and tired of folks
thoughtlessly passing on hoax emails without checking to see if
they are true.  People who wouldn't ever think of doing that with
a phone call will do it with an email.

It's as rude as forwarding jokes without asking if you want to
receive them.

What's YOUR problem that you are complaining about a POLITE
REQUEST to check before forwarding junk?

Tumbleweed,

That was Gwen Love who posted that, and I think she was just being helpful.

Gwen has been on the net (on this group anyway) for donkeys years and must
have seen many many many instances of these hoaxes, I am amazed she could
repost that rubbish especially as similar have been posted here
previously...hmm, does a lookup, yep she posted something very similar back
in 2003.

and some time later someone even posted a spoof virus warning specifically
aimed at her, to which she replied 'rub it in' ..but obviously it wasnt hard
enough!

In any case, you and I both know (I hope) that Gwen is one of the kindest
posters here.   She made a mistake, but so do we all from time to time.

because this is how viruses and hoaxes spread, and its not the first time
shes done it. Someone even posted a spoof virus report to her which she
replied to! Next time it will be "download this file to check you are clean'
or similar.

(by which I mean she acknowledged that she had been foolish to post the
