Set with Mom last Sunday from 10 to 4,Tuesday from 7:15 to 4 and
Thursday, yesterday, from 8:30 to 4. Mom was wide awake yesterday and
only slept for maybe 30 minutes while I was there. Very agitated during
the middle of the day for nearly two hours. Better after they gave here
a med to calm her down and her pain med. Next oldest Sis had told me
that the pain med was the only thing that really calmed her down.
I go out around noon, for 20 to 30 minutes and eat while one of the
ladies helps Mom with her dinner. Glad I have a nice cooler ice chest.
Had a great pork chop sandwich :-) in there yesterday, with chips and
radish slices. Set my lawn chair behind the van in the shade and it was
nice eating there. :-) Plus,I can smoke my little cigars outside! LoL
Was a little concerned about that :-) and was wondering when I would get
a chance to go out and do that! LoL But have quite a few chances when
they have to change Mom,do her exercises, etc.
Nice too to watch one nursing home guys garden growing. :-) It's on a
concrete patio and he has flowers and vegetables. It's really been
something to see his cucumbers growing! :-) And he already has some
small green tomatoes! :-)
And Mom has a new room mate Mary. Don't think she's quite in her right
mind either and she's a good bit weaker than Mom. Has to have help to
get up and in her wheelchair;but she can stand up on her own. Think she
may walk around a bit on her own;but not sure yet. Mary was getting a
breathing treatment yesterday evening and that really agitated her for
awhile and Mom was pretty agitated at the same time! :-) And there I was
setting inbetween the two beds! LoL Didn't know what to do about her? So
called for a nurse and when she held her hand out,I held it awhile. Then
she calmed down a bit and the lady came to see how things were, adjusted
the steaming device on her face and Mary went off to sleep.
That's another thing. Earlier this week I started seening people in the
nursing home as people and not just as nursing home residents. Better
that way. Got a bit noisy there for me Tuesday,as I went up and down the
halls,:-) as they were getting Mom her exercise. That will take a bit of
getting used to! :-) As I'm used to a quiet home and just me and Mom.
The nursing home-quite different- :-) lots of people, moving about and
chatter noise! LoL Friendly people though. Just unsure about something.
So many doors open to rooms where people are, some setting up, some
laying down. With me,I always have thought of a person's room, especially
their bedroom,as private! (ha) Yet in the nursing home so many doors are
open. Don't want to seem like a peeping Tom! :-) But don't want to just
completely ignore people either. Not sure what is the best thing to do
in some situations when I'm there a bit, walking up and down the halls,
when I'm not having to be with Mom? Of course, people actually in the
halls or the dining room, etc. are a completely different matter. No
problem there.
And Mom isn't supposed to get up on her own yet. They're saying she
would fall then and likely break her hip again. :-( So some of us are
setting with her and hiring some setters part of the time for that.
Think that will last for another week or two or so. Not really sure how
long? Glad Mom and some of us kids have some extra money for that! And
that it's not too high priced here-$7 an hour and well worth it!
Just wish Mom understood why she can't get up yet when she needs to go
to the bathroom;but she doesn't/can't understand that. She's used to
getting up at home and going to the bathroom or her potty chair and
yesterday Mom got really agitated when she needed to go and I wouldn't/
couldn't help her up. Just couldn't explain to her why I couldn't do
that. She couldn't understand it. To her,all I had to do was let down
the bed rail,etc! LoL
And I've had a hard time knowing what to do with all my extra time! I
know! We should all have such a hard time! LoL But it's quite a shift
from mostly 24/7 to having a lot of time off. Taking me awhile to get my
mind around that. A person can only do so much fishing and shopping! LoL
And most of what I see on TV is,to me,PFFFT! LoL Not worth watching! LoL
And it didn't help that I hurt my back some,a week or so ago, getting the
back seat out of my van. That was a stupid thing I did-not waiting until
I had help with that. So that has knocked out any yard work for awhile.
But my back is a good bit better now. :-)
Well,I've rambled enough for one morning. :-)

here in alaska, that's all i ever get: small green tomatoes (at
least they fry up nice when battered). it's a rare year when we
can grow sweet corn or tomatoes outside; most folks here in rain
country(tm) try to grow tomatoes, peppers, basil, and sweet corn
in greenhouses, but since my rental unit was vacant for 4 months,
i can't afford a greenhouse this year. too bad, i was looking
forward to growing hot sweet italian peppers and having real vine
ripened tomatoes.
