Not to override her, but Gwen has been posting to Usenet with valid addy
and name for years.
I slipped once, 6 yrs. ago, and posted with my actual identifiers, and I
*still* get 30+ spams a day at that particular address. (I learned
rapidly, and allowed only a single post to propagate.) The headers change,
over time -- long time -- but the spam never stops. That's using
MailWasher with the bounce feature on. Spammers are the dregs of humanity.
Thank you, Katie, for providing me with this opportunity to express my
true emotions. <g> Good luck to you in your caregiving, and I really
sincerely mean that.

I just wrote to Gwen trying to explain how we set up my account with the
fake address. I know we had to unsubscribe from the news server, then
resubscribe to it somehow with the fake addy. Unfortunately I am not
computer savvy enough to remember exactly how we did it. It was a while
ago too... Perhaps someone might be able to help her better than I could?

=============================
All you have to do is open OE and
go to...Tools / Accounts / News tab...
Select the server you wish to change
the e-mail address for / Properties
button / General tab...
Enter any made up address you like
in the E-mail Address field / Apply / OK.
(this is the one that shows in your headers)
If nothing else...just add some additional
letters to the real address:
If your actual address was tom@spot.net
change it to: tomNO@SPAMspot.net
If you use more than one server for
newsgroups....you'll have to do this for
each one.

Hi Evelyn,
I'm still hanging around....just don't post
very often. I'm glad you still contribute, I
always read your messages.
Cheers,

Katelyn, most of them are spam.

and they will continue to be if you post your address in the clear like
that. Better to put, for example, "my new email address is ladylove at
knology dot net". That way its more difficult for automated programs which
trawl the net looking for addresses to spam, to pick your address up.
